[Archive] The Great Emissary Exchange - Swap miniatures with fellow members!

Bloodbeard:

I would love to participate. I dont have a lot of time or free space on my workbench right now. So just to get this straight, would the models be of chaos dwarf warriors? so essentially we will all end up with an emmisary unit we can field containing a miniature from everyone army?

My only concern will be postage. I sent a small parcel to bloodbeard this week costing me £3.70. If i was to do that 10 times and get back in return, that unit would have cost me around £5 per model. Im not going to make a big deal as I am fortunate to have a well payed job but I am guessing that this will be out of a lot of peoples budgets.

Yes Chaos Dwarfs - in the style of your army. Depending on the amount you willing to make and send out, you could end up with a unit. That's MadHatters plan. I can't see myself making ten in any near future, but a couple I could make. Just nice counters and single models. And some great stories to tell during gaming and when people look at your army. "Why is that guy in there?! Different colour and style."

Regarding postage. I can send out single miniatures up to 100g for 1,5 euros inside the EU . And my heaviest oop metal Big Hat Hero is 30g. And the rest of the world is 2eur. So I have no problem with that. And since it's gonna be done over some time, I won't feel it in my budget.

But sure, for some people it might not be worth it. I think the idea is funny, CDO means a lot to my hobby, so I want to back this.

Just had a quick check on the Royal Mail site, and it'd be double that for UK members, and that's at the cheapest rate, which doesn't have tracking (with tracking it'd be fifteen times that again), and can take a long time (e.g. If I sent one to Admiral using the cheapest rate it'd take two months to get there; fortunately the next highest which would only take a week is only 40p more). It also looks like they have to fill out Customs forms if sending outside the EU (and those recipients may have to pay customs fees). All this means that cost could mount up quickly, especially for those of us with low incomes.

TheHoodedMan:

Its not cheap but its a great idea. I would be proud to have some emissaries in my army from fellow members of cdo :hat off.
I`m really tempted to join in although my painting agenda is more than overloaded for the next months.

edit: International tracked letters (20 eur insured) are from Germany about 6 EUR. For most countries there are no customs under a value of 50 EUR.

Dînadan:

Just an additional idea for this - how about a gallery of pics of the Emissaries?  Either pics taken by the painters of the emissary’s friends waving goodbye to him, or by the receiver of the emissary meeting the receiver’s general.

That's a cool idea! We shall do it! :cheers

Great idea! I'm in :)

Yeah... postage can be expensive. The deadlines, number of participants and number of models are removed so everyone is welcome to participate on their own possible level with any number of emissaries to strike deals with the other clans :)

tjub:

Hmm, Ill have to consider this. Fun idea, but I know that Im notoriously bad at these kinda projects…

Admiral:

tjub, your army’s distinct style makes you a must for this exchange.

tenebre:

i do like this idea. It seems fun

MadHatter:

Would love it if you guys joined in!

Oi! It wouldn’t be CDO without you Tjub! I’d love to trade one with all of you guys, I need a representative from Herby’s new forces aswell! Tenebre, would be an honor to exchange a miniature with someone as dedicated to this army as you even though your hardships. TheHoodedMan isn’t Zarrek all about expeditions? Dinadan, pause from your writing and please consider joining! Would be so awesome to have you all in on this :hat off

I swear to Hashut this unit would be the single most awesome thing there was, I won’t play a single game without it :hashut

Ravenswood:

It will be “an Emissary” or may be just warrior or champion?

A regular warrior in the style, colors and theme of your army is what it's all about :) conversions are welcome and cool as well ofc! :hat off

Admiral:

For a pro-painter like Ravenswood, who invests a considerable amount of time in his distinct Golden Demon style and takes his time to paint an army model-by-model, I would suppose that exchanging painted miniatures would present an obstacle. This emissary exchange is a great initiative, though if someone of the mentioned category is interested in entering I would suggest he can ask those he’d like to exchange miniatures with if it’s OK to exchange unpainted miniatures with him. In that case small conversions would be key.

Kera foehunter:

so what about people on this side of the pond. I like to trow my Tall hat

into this figure trade

I understand what you mean but I believe the quality of the paintjob isn't the main point here. Wouldn't exchanging unpainted figures kinda defeat the whole purpose? :cheers

Ravenswood:

No way for unpaited exchanges!
