[Archive] The Lammasu

Hrothgar Goldgreed:

Alright, the Lammasu. For the Great Taurus (and the Bull Centaurs, I guess) it is easy to imagine where it is from and why. The god of the CDs is the bull god, hence a big flying bull can be taken as a Lord’s mount. But for the Lammasu, I have no clue. But where is the Lammasu from? What’s the fluff?

Thommy H:

The wiki is your friend. [[Lammasu]].

grupax:

cool, taurusses an lamassus are warped chaos dwarves :hat off

didn’t see that one coming

Arashi:

The lammasu is actaully a assyrian creature, and since CD are inspired by them, I see no problem

"No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" Sorry couldn't help that one.

Hrothgar Goldgreed:

Thanks for the replies, all. I managed to forget about the Wiki …

Anyway, it´s sort of what I made up already. How remarkable; the Lammasu picture on Wikipedia has a big hat and a curled beard :)?

I didn't draw taht comparison, I know GW has based most of the armies off of an aspect of the real world, Orcs for example are the unruly scots et al. lol, but that makes perfect sense Assyrians and Chaos Dwarfs. Both have funky long *ss beards as well as kicking rad top hats! Awesome!

Auretious Taak.

Not really confirmed. The CDs believe that is the case, but there isn't anything that says that is true either way. I hadn't realised that the wiki was stating it so definitively, might be worth going over some of the fluff pages to check for more like that.

It seems odd that the Lamassu is considered to be a mutation of the Taurus, which is therefore one step further from the dwarf, and yet has features much more similar to a Dwarf than the Taurus.

Has anyone made a Lammasu using currently available parts yet? I remember that a few people planned to use the lions from the HE chariot but I didn't see any results.

Thommy H:

This whole “belief vs. truth” thing is starting to look like an agenda…

Hashut’s Blessing:

For those with access: there is a giant lamassu in the Natural History Museum in London, which I believe is the one usually pictured when referencing the Assyrian link. It has a conical-pyramid big hat and a curled beard

Thommy H:

The British Museum, actually. The Natural History Museum is just for stuff from the natural world. There’s a few of them, and a whole section devoted to Ancient Mesopotamia which is very interesting for Chaos Dwarfs fans (though they don’t actually take as much from ancient history as you’d think).

I have made one using the current peagasus and the old giant head, I don't know how he would look with a plastic giant head

Swissdictator:

I love the Lammasu figure, and even the rider, a lot. Very well made in my eyes!

I'm so glad I have one of my own - if you'd destroyed a perfectly good Lammasu when I was in need of one, I'd hate you forever... :P

two_heads_talking:

you know, I might have a lammasu or 2 or 3 in my workbench… I will have to check… No need to hate someone when someone else might have it… lol

Thommy H:

Well I have one, so I don’t hate Willmark. Good thing too - what would he put in his magazine without me?

Kera foehunter:
