Helblindi:
It’s in the uncanny valley, which makes it hard for me to enjoy.
-models are very nicely done, to the point of being very realistic, but some anatomical elements put me off (like how the inquisitor has very slim shoulders) but it could be the animation
-animation is weird: the way they walk looks unnatural, again the problem with the inquisitor’s shoulders. I don’t know if these 8 minutes are going to get more editing, but even lip-syncing is a bit off, when he cocks the gun, it’s only a sound, his fingers don’t move…
-voice acting is a bit lame imo.
It’s a nice initiative, and this show tremendous effort, but if the result is going to be of this quality, I think they should go for a little less realism and make it a bit more cartoony/computer-gamey.
Dînadan:
I think the movements of the main characters aren’t too bad, but I agree on the movements of the generic marching guardsmen being static and jerky.
Also agree on the lip sync problem, hopefully they can fix it by the time the full film is released. But like I said over on BoW, if not we can always pretend that it’s actually been filmed in Low and High Gothic and just dubbed into modern English for our convenience.
I think considering this is a fan film and has been made with no budget (compared to a mainstream film), it’s an excellent effort and makes you wonder how much more epic an official one made by a Hollywood studio could be (although short of GW being acquired by Disney, I can’t really see that ever happening really).
Admiral:
Best 3D rendition of Warhammer 40k to date, and done without budget at that. There are indeed those mentioned problems, technical in nature, and the acolyte of the intro would likely be tortuous to watch if he turned out to be the main character of the movie, unless good story telling comes into play. The end result is still visually splendid in the final analysis, and makes me think of Fire Warrior’s simple yet great intro.
Worth the wait, and bonus points for not being all about bolters and chainswords. Brilliant work so far, all team members of the Lord Inquisitor! :cheers
