Swedish comp the big chat on the scene in the tourneys and just damn near anywhere in the war gaming community right now. If you ask most folks it’s a god send as it balances out armies and takes away rinse lather repeat unit choices. For others it’s a nasty vile thing that limits a players style wants and forces them to use toys they don’t care for.
Well for me it had become a new tool, for you can get away with murder if you know how to use the system of the Swed and what to do and what not to do. This past weekend I have let another take over the local tourneys for now, and this gave me a chance to be one of the people a a player, as such I got to make a list that not only competes in tourneys but also takes full use of Swedish comp.
My army first off was a very soft light list with no arty no hell cannons, and only one caster and one dog trash drop. The list in more depth was
Lord on great bale with a crap ton of toys. One up armour four plus war, scroll, other tricksters blood of hashut.
Taruk with dawn stone charmed shield and sword of might.
Bsb with mask of the furance and big stick.
One khan on wolf.
33 blunder busses with full command and war banner.
8 bulls with ap banner and drummer boy.
Iron demon hell bound.
Lore was fire, and the list came in at a silly high comp of an 18.4 which gets pushed down to a 16 in our system(over 16 is 16, have to be a 6 or higher).
What this let me do was make great massive foolish mistakes and still come out in a tie for third place out of 16 players, of which we have some really good players here in the Union. Most noteable was my last game where it was looking like a draw at the end of the game and then I asked my oppent his comp score and he replied it’s a 10.7, well that gives me 530pts. Taking my draw to a minor win for me.
I must note at this point before I take my leave that this system we are using is a 20-0 system you can find the full rules for it on the web site for the Lone wolf Indy gt in Texas.
The moral of this not oral tale? If you find yourself in a area that uses Swedish comp and you want the most bang for your buck, take a list that soft scores as much as possible. Starting off with almost 600pts is a massive up swing.
That was why my local tournament decided against swedish comp due to that issue of people purposley working around the system to abuse it. But at the same time, if everyone does the same thing swedish comp is still working, which is making people run different army lists.
Since we only play friendly none competitive games around here, I’m not at all into the rule of Swedish Comp. Only that diffenrent unit types, items and combinations get you a score. And the lower (?!) the score - the nastier your list is?
Is victory points affected by the score difference between opponents? Because then there sure would be a nice reason for getting the strongest (while remaining high scored) list.
Well I would be interested in knowing which stuff to include in a list, that will keep the score up. I’ve heard said many times “ironsworn are good for swedish comp”. Why is this?
Well first of all I don’t think you’re the first one who’s able to get a low comp score and a good list together
The trick to get a low comp score in order to get compensation points only work in tournament which apply “active comp system”. In this principle you get as geist said some points for the difference in comp between yours and the opponent. It’s nice because it encourage people to get soft comp in order to profit from this bonus.
@bloodbeard: unusual Units like ironswords or kdai fireborns get low comp because they are not often played. The idea behind Swedish system is to see more differents lists. It’s the actual problem for example in ETC comp where a lot of lists are similar in each race.
For example CD don’t get much negative points for kdai fireborns, centaurs, ironsworns, core unit. But we get a lot of negative points for the hellcanon, destroyer, prophet, a lot of wm… if you want an example I made an army list which is 17,3 comp a few days ago (posted on this forum).
In every army you can find some unusual units which are said to perform good in Swedish comp because they don’t get you a lot of negative points! So they will be good for the amount “point comp” paid if you understand what I mean.
Btw geist if your comp will get pushed on 16 you should then really put it on 16 and not 18,4. With these points you could easily include some more nasty stuff!
As I said it was pushed down to a 16 from a 18.4 because it has a soft cap here. At other tourneys the lists must be down to a 16. I did not include more nasty stuff cause I wanted the comp soft and I wanted to play with my bale tarus.
While I am not the first to abuse it I thought in would share the ideas and wisdom of the tatica of such a system and how to play it to your favor. Because sooner or latter it will effect your play style or play area.
these guys are rediculously undercomped in Swedish, I took a 14 with a flying death wizard and tauruk spam, simply because they let me soak points without being comped, and when you have 8+ in your list they do surprising amounts of famage vs infantry (especially with soulblight bubbled up)
