Does anyone know any good tutorials on how to paint red hot metal? I’m not looking for molten metal, just really hot metal still in its solid form.
I can picture it very clearly in my head but just aint sure how to approach the paint method.

Undercoat of orange, dry brush of red, then heavy messy dry brush of boltgun, then light dry brush of chainmail on metal areas.
Did that one with the walls of a furnace, looked quite good as I recall.

Possibly also undercoat of deep red, glazes of orange with small (very small!) specs of black. Simulating the pieces of slag/ carbon in the metal

Interesting technique, Nitro. I’ll give it a try on a friend of mine’s Juggernaught - he’s demanding glowing hot metal plates, and to teach him how to paint it I’ll have to learn myself first.

I would paint the main part white/off-white, and start blending orange through to red towards the edges. So white is the hottest part and then orange and red as parts which are not as hot (but still hot). Here is a picture of what I am refereing to.

ohh I really like tjubs second link. I think I would go in that direction. it makes we want to make paint my entire unit’s weapons like that for the banner of eternal flame effect.
