[Archive] Trying to understand this whole "PayPal" thing

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Hi guys!

I’ve added Paypal buttons to my Monster Hobbies web site, but I’m wondering how it all works on my end.

For example, say someone is looking at my web site and they decide to buy “The Wolf Man”.

Obviously, they click the “Buy It Now” button and do the transaction through Paypal…but what happens on my end? Do I get notified by Paypal that the item was sold and the buyer’s address, etc?

Anyone use this on their own web sites?

What happens?

Are there any suggestions to making my buttons “work” better?

(I’m a Noob to all this, being that this is my first time taking it for a spin!)

The web page in question, by the way - http://monsterhobbies.webs.com/monstermodelkits.htm

I dont know what charges etc will be involved for a business to get payments through Paypal but the money should get transferred straight to your Paypal account and you should get an email sent to your address linked to your account saying that you have been paid some money, by who, what they bought and where to send it to. If it doesnt have this info in the email then it will have a link to the transaction id that will have all the details.

Tarrakk Blackhand:

Ok…so no big deal then?

The only thing is that my bank account hasn’t recieved the Paypal “two cents” letting me know Paypal is accepting my bank account as a valid commodity. Hope the “3-5 days” doesn’t take too long!

Yeah, its very easy. You’ll get an email with the details every time someone buys something, then just go into your PayPal account and print off package slips, etc. Its so easy even I can do it.

Regarding the buttons, you can jazz them up to look less, well, PayPally if you know how to. Obviously I don’t, as that would be helpful, but I know a man who might. He also runs this site so perhaps you should PM Xander if it sounds like you want to try it.

As for making them work better, I have no idea. I do know that mine didn’t work when I installed them, and I had to bug people to fix it. That was annoying.

They did it in 2 days for me, so I doubt it’ll take long.

…after all that updating, I phone my Business provider (For interact and CC payments in the store) and he tells me that they offer a more secure service at a cheaper rate than Paypal. It’s the same E-commerce that Sears and Best Buy use for their online transactions. It’s also handled by the same bank I use, so it eliminates the “Middle Man” transfer fees from one bank to another.
