I love troll lists and Throgg. They are fun and cool.
How many points are you bringing to the game? 2400? 3000?
You need Ash Storm, magmacannons, and a lore of fire daemonsmith, ruby ring of ruin on a hobgoblin. Make those point heavy dangerous units flammable and blast then with everything.
Hit the fast juggernaughts in turn one and take as many wounds from them as you can. Hold of the charge as long as you can.
Take out the trolls before they hit you in close combat. Make sure to take away their regeneration with fire.
Fireglaives are super expensive. But the extra strength is great against WoC. I would take the banner of eternal flame on that fireglaive unit, for double wounds. They wont hurt often.
Lastly the black hammer is great, for the extra strength and the off chance of instant kill.
There’s a lot riding on Ash Storm. So go lvl 4, talisman of preservation and earthing rod. To survive the inevitable miscast.
A hellbound irondemon to ram the prince migh be smart. Wont hurt him, but may hold him up. Use a khan to help direct the prince into the train.
If you know your going against shitton of trolls, I would suggest bringing lore of death, purple sun into a big block of trolls = happy sorcerer prophet.
Also rather than tie up the Daemon prince, just shoot it with Iron daemon, those multiple wound D3 wounds really hurt single monsters, now the trick is just to get that bastard in range.
Purple sun is great. But I would rather loose a game - than purple sun a victory.
Bloodbeard
Is purple sun not the built in counter to WoC players who just take a bunch of big nasties rather than actually taking, you know, warriors of chaos. It seems to me that some of the things taken by power gamer style lists would actually struggle more against some more balanced infantry heavy lists rather than other power gamer style lists.
@torn: to be honest my first game with CD was against another CD player.
Really top bloke, welcomed me into the local club and introduced me to everyone.
Anyway first game purple sun up his flank killed 36 infernal guard and won the game. It was a hallowed victory. Mainly because it was in a friendly environment, if it was a tournament practice match then game on.
As a side more great advice guys really getting some strong tactical ideas again this guy.
Magma canons are your friend against trolls. Khans with spears can actually take on marauder flail cav decently. Hellcanon or/and Iron daemon is needed to shoot down/hold up daemon prince. Maybe give daemonsmith or prophet lore of metal. Searing doom is doom to blood crushers, as MR1 is not exactly going to save him, and is reasonably useful against other warrior things in general. At least one unit of archers is nice to poke off the charmed shield so that rockets/hellcanon/iron daemon can shoot down the prince. Archers can also be used to redirect blood crushers if khans are already dead. Flaming banner on a unit of fireglaive guys is good if you are tailoring against this list, as some trolls will survive regardless of all the shooting, and serve as a target for his troll horde if he does not know about the banner, otherwise the daemon prince will charge in and laugh as you do not hurt him. Purple sun does work I suppose, though my artillery dice likes to roll misfires constantly and purple suns down dwarf lines is always bad news.
