[Archive] Valuation of 1st and 2nd edition rule box sets

Necrotique:

In mint condition, with some templates cut out. Picked them up a while ago for rather cheap, so wondering about the re-sell value

Are you talking about Warhammer Fantasy Battle?

Usually the first edition of anything tends to be valuable. I personally have been looking to pick up a first edition box set of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. But I don't really want to spend big bucks on it, as it is more for completing my collection, more than for investment purposes. If you are a collector, then it could be worth something, but to a true gamer, who only wants the latest rules and figs, it is probably worthless. Value wise I would expect a collector to pay about USD$70-USD$120 for each of those items, depending on the day, but this just my opinion. I personally wouldn't spend more than USD$50 on the first edition or more than USD$40 on the second edition.

Never saw this reply but thanks for it

I think I’ll just keep them and read through them first before making any decisions.

I have seen a first edition on ebay, which has a starting price of about US$65, and there are no bidders. I am thinking are more gamers than there are collectors, and I think the collectors are more into the miniatures than the rule sets.

Da Crusha:

I have a second edition one, I bought it a few years ago at a con for $12.

Necrotique:

Very astute advice. I think I’ll just keep them for now as I won’t play be them in all likelyhood. I do like the little snippets of art on them though :stuck_out_tongue:

Havn’t seen a first or second yet but there is a third edition warhammer rulebook currently on ebay for $80 US so I presume the earlier ones would cost more.

Yes...the third edition. Now this is a cool book. I actually own two copies. One is my original (which is what got into warhammer back in the late 80s/early 90s), but as that copy was falling appart I bought another copy from eBay, but I certainly didn't pay US$80 for it, I think I paid about US$20 - US$30 for it. It was used but in perfect condition. Like I said earlier, I don't think there are a lot of collectors out there, who collect all the rulebooks, armybooks and fluff. I a sure there are some, but not many.

Thats just an expensive asking price. I wouldn't expect it to sell for nearly that much.
