[Archive] Wargames Minis fitting in with WFB?

Warhammerman:

Wargames Minis

I’ve been searching for cheap alternate stores that sell plastic troops in the likeness of warhammer.  So far all I’ve found is historical sites, but this one really catches my eye.  All kinds of great army ideas began formulating in my head as soon as I saw the wonderful minis.  Click on the link above and search through the historical ones.

But, now I just have a question for you good people?

Would these work with a fantasy army.  They are the same scale, but would the image be right.  What would be best used for an Empire or WoC army.

I thought of using the Romans for an empire force based on the Church of Sigmar.  Hence the better armor.  But, then a force of British gunners would be cool.

And what would you think of a lizardmen force based on the Zulu Warriors?  This would be my first full army using alternate plastics.  But, just tell me which army sounds the coolest to you folks and look at the nice miniatures too.

Gar Shadowfame:

i’m afraid none would look “right” against any WHFB army on the field.

Can’t say anything about that particular manufacturer. But, this is a Flagellant vs a Warlord games ECW Pike Officer, with flagellant arms. They fit pretty well. I’m considering using ECW minaitures as an Emprie army, for when I can’t play a real historical game.

Border Reiver:

You might also consider Warlord minis as well - their Celt minis are spot on and nicely moulded as well.

For army suggestions - use the Celt/German minis to make a Marauder heavy WoC army.

AGPO:

Wargames Factory minis would not look right. Although the original sculpts are good, much of the range is made using poor quality moulds and plastics which gives the models a very inferior look. This is especially true of their early models like the Romans. Also, WFminis are done in ‘true scale’ rather than ‘heroic scale’ and next to a Warhammer mini it stands out a mile. If you want to use other firms I can recomend Warlord Games, Vitrex and Perry Miniatures.

i think they would work nicely mixed up with the current flagellants.

unfortunatly i already have 75 flagellants and i really don’t need anymore!

Fortunately I need some. :cheers

I think:

Caesar’s legion - would make a nice unit for dogs of war

Celtic Warband - nice change for militia

Celtic Cavelry - nice base for some winded lancers

Celtic Chariots - do they do chaos maurader chariots? they may look really cool.

the others would make characterful empire units i guess, maybe with a bit of modification they might work for dogs of war or brentonian?

Thorne:

nitroglysarine I would have to concur but on seperate reason for the choices just made here, The models look of good quality having never seen them in the sprue just yet but I would say that.

Celtic Warband - Would make pretty impressive kislevite foot troops. I however think they would make poor empire militia as they are too barbaric and lack the base civilisation for the job

Celtic Cavelry - Would make pretty awesome kislevite archers and wiht a little work make nice winged lancers too.

Warlord games celtic archers would make good empire huntsmen

Perry neopolionic cavalry these would make damn fine outriders or even pushing the limit out and making warhammer 40000 imperial guard rougth riders.

I'd say they would make quite a nice unit of militia if you sway away from the classic prim-and-propper take on the empire, like a Stir River patrol or areas near Middenheim, i think they would work for those, if mixed up with the sprues from GW.

I could seem these making quite nice pistoleers with a bit of modification.
