[Archive] What was the Brush Slave League?

Carcearion:

So I have been snooping around allot (as I am want to do), and I keep finding references to (and noticing banners of) the Brush Slave League, which appears to have been hosted on this site over multiple years some time ago. The pages for those leagues appear locked out, so I cant really get any more information.

As far as I could tell it was a model painting pledge, and apparently it was possible to win some kind of prize?

I’d love to know the details surrounding it, who organized it? what the rules where? and so on, it sounds like it was an awful lot of fun!

:hat off

Threadbare:

Clam was the one that organized it.

Rules

The idea was to get people to reduce the unpainted lead pile with a monthly painting challenge. Everyone would vote for a winner.

The winner of each month got to pick the topic for the next month and so on.

Winner for the year got a variant of this

Sounds like a cool community initiative <3

Bloodbeard:

I took part in the last BSL run around here.

Clam would decide a theme for each month ‘warband’, 'demons, ‘winter’, ‘cavalry’ etc.

Members would vote and points would be given based on those. There was also bonus points every month, so that workhorse painter would also have a chance. I didn’t get any points from good painting, but scored fairly from entering every month (you didn’t have to) and always working towards all bonus points.

I was a nice amount of fun.

I would be terrible at this xD

Abecedar:

There was the ‘Brush Slave’, which had a participant, (usually the last winner) proposing the next challenge.

I loved it, it got me starte painting and challenging myself without the presure of being a Golden Hat competition.

I didn’t do the later Brush Slave League as it was a bit different and as a cumudgeon I don’t like change.
