[Archive] What would you buy if you could buy metal by the gram?

Xander:

As many of you no doubt know, GW staffers can buy metal bits by the gram. This makes it very cheap. However, you may not know that this is ending soon (for Canada anyways) since the distribution location has switched, or something.

So basically GW staffers are getting in there final order before this can no longer happen. Question is, I only get one shot at this, so what should I get?

Some things I have considered:

-Hellcannon parts and crewman

-Cursed Company Dwarf

-Bull Centaur Bodies

Other than that I haven’t had enough time to think it over. What else should I get? Thanks for all your advice!

hal:

I’m not too sure what you should get, I had a friend who worked for GW and he used to put in all sorts of wild orders, such as a kilo of ungors “just to see how many there would be”

It’s because of him that I have all my 5th ed Chaos Dwarfs.

If I was you I’d invest in all sorts of parts you might want for future Kollossus projects (if any) and maybe some other things like those 40k ork rokkits and such.

Of course if you had enough money to spare, you could invest in a future army.

catbarf:

I’d get as many Hellcannon crewmen as I could… there is no other way to get lots of them…

wallacer:

Buy whatever you think is going to be worth money on eBay in a years time, then sell them then to subsidise future army purchases.

AGPO:

GW staff aren’t allowed to sell minis precisely because of this perk. Personally, I’d by units of 25-30 of all the metal troops you use in your army, and any you’re thinking of starting such Ironbreakers, Daemons etc. Other than that, get a load of the remaining 5th Ed metal CD units - sneaky gits, blunders, hobbo wolf boyz, characters and sneaky gitz. Some greater daemons and other massive character models wouldn’t go amiss either, not to mention hellcannon crew by the bucket and possiblly a couple of cannon (just incase we CAN use them when the new book comes out)

yeah, I know, but if you can get them that cheap then think of it as an investment.
Get them, stick them in a box, then at some point in the future when you're not working for GW sell them off to friends/forum members/eBay customers.

You know it happens ;)

AGPO:

I know it happens, the point is that if you post that kind of thing on the Forum GW have a legitimate complaint about us, as it can be seen as encouragement to break terms of employment and the law

cornixt:

I’d get a few of the newer Blood Bowl Deathrollers. Excellent, if only to use in conversions

Regardless of wheater it happens, it almost certainly shouldn't be as far as GW is concerned; and definitly shouldn't be the sort of advice we should be giving

Pyro Stick:

All the things you are thinking of getting are good ideas. If i was you i would try and get as many of the Chaos Dwarf models as i could and the Throne of Power maybe. Thats a cool model. Is it only metal models that you get cheaper?

angryboy2k:

Good lord Xander! Stick as much of your money as you can into all the latest metal figures available for Warhammer Fantasy. Don’t just include what you need for your army; I’m sure you could just buy large amounts of stuff you don’t currently need but might in the future.

Spread your purchases out across the ranges and buy A LOT of EVERYTHING!!!

Steve

Pyro Stick:

I was going to say that but i decided not to. Thats what i would do. Get as many models for as cheap a price as you can. ITs not going to last long. Are you allowed to order classic models?

Xander:

The dream has ended! I have given my two weeks notice at GW, which means I won’t be getting any sweetly discounted bitz orders. I have found a new job at almost double the pay and with much more potential growth into my field of study.

A model I was really considering was the Welder Mask crew from the Dwarf Flame Cannon. He looks just like a Hellcannon guy and would be an awesome base for a Chaos Dwarf conversion.

Hashut’s Blessing:

If you REALLY want that guy Mr. Xander, I’m sure we could arrange something… A trade mayhaps? (P.S. REALLY glad to hear about the new job!)

Xander:

Thanks! Hrm, maybe I would like him, hehehehe.

I am also REALLY glad about this: http://chaos-dwarfs.xandor.ca/wiki/index.php/Thumbnails

Thumbnails are now working in the Wiki! Praise Hashut!

Hashut’s Blessing:

Although, buying the whole flame cannon opens up other conversions ( a strange earthshaker, a large death rocket-type weapon, etc.). Just say what you’d trade if you still want him…

AGPO:

This crewman inspired me to build an evil flame cannon to use when I use the dwarf list for my army. Simply replace all the dwarfen details with greenstuff CD symbols etc, the mussle with a classic chaos warrior horn, and convert the crew to look like your other crewmen. Job done. Its quite far down on my list of priorities though, prob after nemesis crown.
