Hey guys … Haven’t posted here in a loooong time but I browse these forums once in a while … Just curious if anyone knows when or if FW is still releasing the destroyer? I started doing a small army in beginning of 2014 and kinda just lost interest however I’m considering getting back into it … But like the title said, anyone have any clue if they’re still even going to release it ? And when ?
My guess is that it has been put off indefinitely, possibly never to be released.
It was being worked on in the spare time by one of the FW staff, and it got pretty lousy responses from all over any time it was shown. I think the main issue was that it didn’t quite capture the concept, or at least the community’s preconceived concept from the fluff and rules. At any rate, if the response at the shows were anything like they were online FW may have suggested moving it to the backburner, and if I was the sculptor I would have said “F*** it, I’m making it for myself and the whiners can go make their own.” Of course, we don’t really know. But the fact that there’s been no chatter about it and no further developments suggests some elements of the above are likely to be correct.
There was, however, a reasonably robust response from the community to make efforts to convert what was being created into something else. I liked some of the armour and things like that, but would have preferred more of a daemonic/immaterial body, like the K’daai have.
Well, when I was at the HH Weekender earlier in the year, I asked Edgar (who sculpted the Bull Centaurs) if we’d ever see any BCs with different weapon options and he burst out laughing.
The Destroyer is a different model from a different sculptor, but I’d expect the same response would apply.
I can’t stand the WIP one we’ve seen anyway. I won’t shed a tear if it never comes out. Though I’d like them to make a good one, instead.
People at this Forum seems to like it. Overall. Personally I think the beard ruins it for me… And all the meachanically stuff. But the overall fell is that people seems to like it. It have been brought up in another thread.
my only concern is that it is way too big, I hate this new fashion of making minis as big as possible.
I share this concern. Especially when looking on the new undead characters from the nagash books. From my point of view an army should be optically balanced, so only 1 or 2 models could be fielded without destroying the aesthetic.
But there is also no problem with the infernal golem in that way from my point of view. The other models which are used as a destroyer are big also (demons from mierce, some ogre beasts, maulerfiends, beastmen ghorgors, even action figures!) and the statline of the destroyer justifies the biggest models available ;).
I will use the golem in my army and built in on a 100x150mm base. Fits perfectly regarding the size. Taste on style is another point :hat (I love the beard).
Thanks for all the replies guys … I kinda figured that was what happened because I do remember that most people weren’t too crazy about it … I personally thought it was pretty neat but oh well … The titan forge one is pretty cool and I saw someone who used a big Minotaur looking action figure with a big hammer that was probably my favorite one. Sucks that they aren’t doing any more cd for a while … That lammasu would have been pretty awesome if they would have released that …but Oh well guess 40k is just too popular . I’ve tried to get into it but I’ve never liked futuristic/science fiction type stuff … I’ve always loved the fantasy/medieval a lot more
