[Archive] Who are the Red Slayers?

Heavygear:

So who are the Red Slayers mentioned in white dwarf?

The Empire is called the Free peoples.

AGPO:

WD also mentioned something about a steam driven faction, so I guess is that there are going to be different Dwarf factions. My best bet is that they’ve taken Slayers in a very different direction. Hope I’m wrong and that it’s a mercenary faction, because I loved the fluff for Slayers.

Thommy H:

I believe Red Slayers are going to be the main human faction - basically mercenaries.

The thing is, the warscrolls for the old Warhammer units won’t necessarily reflect the background for the AoS factions. The keywords give a clue as to how things will work, I reckon. Like there are no “Dark Elves”, they’re just “Aelfs” and “Exiles”. Expect the future Aelf faction to be a combined army, possibly with a hint of the three original flavours.

Dînadan:

I think it’ll just be a human mercenary faction as there’s no mention of humans elsewhere in the Order, Chaos, Death, Destruction fluff bits in WD.

As for there being different dwarf factions…I’m not sure, part of me thinks classic dwarfs will get phased out and replaced by the ‘Steamhead Duardin’ :~. Don’t have anything to back that up though, it’s just a hunch

AGPO:

Why they couldn’t have just named them Duardin or even Dawi without the “steamhead” nonsense is beyond me.

The fallout of the Chapterhouse lawsuit has meant GW has moved away from any generic names for its factions, thus aelfs and militarum tempestus instead of Elves and imperial guard. I’m not sure how that stops say Avatrars of War making a unit of Elves that look suspiciously like Aelfs and just calling them High Elves on the box, but then I’m not an IP lawyer.

Dînadan:

Agreed. I’m guessing that the dwarfs will end up with lots of stuff looking like a cross between Titan Forge and Warmachine as they’re replaced with Steamhead Duardin, hence the name.

Also, how do they expect to copyright ‘Aelfs’ when ?lfs was the old Norse name for elves? Surely Aelf is public domain just like elf? Or is Ae distinct enough from ? for lawyers? :stuck_out_tongue:
