one of our top players where in australia last year (exchange student) in his first tournement he lost only 3 points !!! before last round he where 25points ahead but he didnt win because they ruled his magic/shooty skaven cheesy.
you in australia have a lot of unridden rules that make a tournement more like a lottery then best player win.

Meaning he is only 5 points a head on battle. Also his army could have, and most likely was, painted badly meaning he would have lost points there. And yes we do have comp. this is a mark of how enjoyable you wish the game to be essentially (If you want to bring Seagaurd or Skaven SAD armies you may as well have played Yatzee.) So your friend probly did have more battle points then others but not because he was a good general but rather he enjoyed rolling dice and watching his opponent pack up his minis before he even had a chance to advance them....
