[Archive] Wings?

AGPO:

I’ve had an idea for some fury conversions but don’t want to shell out for GW wings. Does anyone know either a good method for making them or a UK firm - 've had bad experiences with international shipping - that makes them cheaply?

Khaosbeardling:

oooo, you have me interested. While I don’t know of any places to get wings. Do you wanna tell me you’re idea?

Ishkur Cinderhat:

My best guess would be to visit a local toy shop. Currently, fantasy-ish models such as dragons and knights are quite often to be found in such stores, and they are incredibly cheap (if you are used to GW prices, that is).

hal:

I saw before that somebody had the idea of using sycamore seeds as wings, I thought it was a great idea although it may not be exactly what you’re looking for.

hope that worked.

Kera foehunter:

Well you have to wait till spring. thats when they fall of the trees.

Not that im a elf and know these things.

the moss would make some cool shubery

WarplockMonkey:

I think you would have to give them a few coats of super glue to make them tough enough

I heard of a guy who used real dragonfly wings on a model, he said he put something like 30 layers of nail varnish on then

Kera foehunter:

Wow thats alot of work .Dragonfly wing boy!! That guy had no life to sit and do 30 coats of nail polish. i have doing one coat of nail polish.

Ishkur Cinderhat:

The idea with the seeds is brilliant! These could be easily copied in silicone and cast in clear resin. Not that I have good experience with using clear resin… maybe Citadel water F/X could do the same job too. ^^

My thoughts exactly.

I just went outside and found a plethora of 'em due my neighbour having a Sycamore tree and it's autumn over here.

Willmark:

Dude the GW wings rock and they are not that expensive $12 for 2 IIRC. That being said you idea might not wrk with them.

How would I go about resin casting?

Yah but I'm on a (very) tight budget and I need ten sets. at 15 its a bit two much for what is basically an "inspiration unit"

Kera foehunter:

Come on 12.00 isnt much. i have to agree with willmark. look how much reason would cost you buddy

hal:

Hopefully this will help you agpo:

edit Also in addition to Xander’s green stuff mold-making video there’s a load of others, some good, some not. I haven’t really had time to watch them.

AGPO:

Its about $30 US, and it would mean my CDs would have to go on hold for another month. What with other commitments and only being able to work around my studies funds are VERY limited for modelling

Grimstonefire:

If you use the metal casing you get around wine bottle corks (a few of them round this time of year ;)), its quite durable. You can also use the metal you get on those tubes of tomato puree. Not as much fun as wine though.

Lol.

Cut to a suitable shape, and with some greenstuff on as the cartilage parts it would make good fleshy wings.Or glue some wire on.

Never realised before, but those furies could make some cool werewolves without the wings.

AGPO:

Thanks for the tip grim, and you’re right about the Furies. Will give that one a go over the holidays.

Basically I made an exalted champion out of a few bitz I had lying around, and someoe commented that he looked like he should have wings. I agreed and, having way too many chaos champions already, made a couple more of these guys and decided they would work as furies. only trouble is atm they are without wings. If nothing else works I’ll turn them into Tzeentch bestigor

Kera foehunter:

Sweet idea grims!!Don’t forget to save the corks!!
