I’m a die hard WOC player, but sold off some of my stuff to finance my CD army project…now it looks like I’ll have to sell my kidney to get back into WOC
Those are some impressive models. I think it’s hilarious how they’ve been using their backdrops recently. Check out the one behind the Slaanesh cavalry.
Festus is absolutely amazing. Actually all the characters (and Scyla) are. Wicked regiments as well! Don’t know what to say about the altar though. I mean, it’s cool, I like it. It’s just… Different?
That NAMBLA-themed nurgle guy is just awful. Not in any sort of "good" awful way either... more like a NSFW way.

He is Festus! A special character! I actually like a lot the model, it really resembles the artwork on the previous armybook. I like the Imperial guy forced to drink his concoction, the detail on his backpack (with the Nurglins toying with severed bodyparts. Yuck!).
The models are quite good. The Warshrine is vastly different to how I imagined the box set would look like, but it’s still great: For bitz purposes if nothing else.
Great find Richard, but I kinda dig the dark less polarized chaos undivided motif, where your army just looks like a bunch of hardened evil butchers, not so much twisted mutated chaos spawns. But as a hobbyist I love it!
The Khorne Juggernaut Knights are nifty. Yes, lazy…they just used pre-existing (maybe made new heads) but a great new addition.
The warshrine…yikes. It’s well made, but just so flamboyant over the top. Tzeentch, Slaaneshi? Sure. Khorne, Nurgle, Unmarked? No way. It’s just too much…even for Tzeentch I think.
Really, the book is pretty stale, with a bit much cheese. Some things need fixing; No puppet, adjust Eye of the Gods, raise price of marauders etc etc,
Other things need some help. it’s still mostly a move forward and hope for a good charge. In this day of steadfast and giant blocks, WOC sometimes have an uphill battle.
I’m sold on the Warshrine. Never has such a bitz mine been released before in a single kit. The mutant ogres will make good rank fillers in a slave unit with some brandings and whip scars, the human might be traded off or used as a slave or northern emissary, and the rest is golden raw material for terrain and odd unit conversions.
Yes the warshrine is great for anything except for a warshrine, at least that is what most people who likes it keep saying…It will make great conversion blah… blah… (i personally find it ridiculously ugly, disproportioned and completely lacking a clear purpose in its creators minds)
I find the 2 cavalries very well sculpted but with really really uninspiring poses. I love the appearance with the greek helmets of the slaaneshi riders, but their poses are…umm.
The 2 special characters have high technical quality in them, but the pose in valkia seems again very lazy and festus may be the green paintjob that makes him look like a fat orc? the model looks great in detail though.
I thought the Warshrine was hideous until I went to GWs webpage and took a really good look at it with the 360 degree viewer. I switched from being a hater to thinking it is pretty darn good. And all the character models are freakishly good!
I’ll get some Skullcrushers, since I play pure Khorne Warriors of Chaos and although I already have a Warshrine, I might buy this one and put the platform on top of my LOTR Mamuk and finally make that War Mammoth I’ve been planning for ages, and use the bearers as mutant War-Trolls in the vein of my existing Throgg-count-as. I hated Scyla from the leaked pics, but I like him now I’ve seen the 360 view and I may get Valkia eventually because she fits in with my theme and I plan to make an all-woman Marauder unit to be her followers. She’s also the only female character in the Warhammer world who doesn’t use her sexuality of gender as a weapon and is just allowed to be a warrior who happens to be woman. So I like her.
got my WD magazine today…comes with a little 2 page booklet with updates for the WOC units “Skullcrushers of Khorne” and “Hellstriders of Slaanesh”…the write-up on the new units is “meh”(there is a double flip-out page featuring the Warshrine, but nothing to get excited about)…I kinda wish they would have done it like they did for the Vampire Counts issue, when they had about 10+ pages of various VC army lists and storyline for the new models…the Battle Report is kinda bland with 3000pt armies, Chaos vs Ogre Kingdoms…and wait for it…shocker… the WOC win!!! The last time I bought a White Dwarf Mag was the Vampire Counts issue and it seemed pretty decent to me…this particular issue just seems like one large advertisement with a few decent articles thrown in…
It’s just an update to let you use the new toys ahead of the new WoC book sometime next year. Looking at the Skullcrusher rules, I don’t even think they’ll resemble their eventual form - if Demigryphs get 3-Wounds, there’s no way these models should have 2. So expect them to be superseded within a few months.
And, for the record, Chaos Space Marines (with all the new toys) lost their inaugural battle report in last month’s White Dwarf, so they seem to have dropped the “new models always win” thing.

Didn't WD pick up a new chief editor or something, who was supposed to stop doing this sort of stuff, or was that just fan conjecture? I wish they'd go back to story driven battle reports, rather the the half baked "technical summary" I read in the October mag. Overall, I thought that issue was great...until I picked up the CSM codex.
Didn't notice it before, but the Greek helmets are nice.
