[Archive] Wow - old necromancer

cornixt:

I was looking through the new releases and spotted this guy:

Instantly remembered him from many years ago (1993!):

It wasn’t like it was even a great model at the time, being ridiculously oversized in many areas. Are there many more of these seriously old models being redone in Finecast?

Heinrich Kemmler…

This message was automatically appended because it was too short.

Some necron hq’s are very very old:http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat700002a&prodId=prod1380050a

Thommy H:

Actually, it’s more like that Necromancer was never retired from “active service” - GW never really did any new Necromancers since the days of 4th/5th Edition and the old Undead book. He was even there in the last Vampire Counts book with a new paint job. I’m pretty sure he’s in the 8th Edition rulebook somewhere. So he’s just stuck around and, like all the old metals as new books get released, he’s now been redone in Finecast. So it’s not like they’ve brought him back from the vaults - he’s just had staying power.

JMR:

I’ve always had a weak spot for that Necromancer model. He always makes me think of Dark Omen for some reason. Come to think of it, wasn’t there some voucher in the game’s box to get that miniature?

I might still have that voucher somewhere  Maybe I can claim a Finecast version with it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Necrotique:

They redid the “Old One Eye” for Tyranids in Finecast :frowning:
I wish they’d create a new model for him - he looks ridiculously small for a carnifex described as massive amongst his own kind…

:cheers

Time of Madness:

They’ve done a bunch of stuff in finecast for the past. Since I don’t buy finecast stuff I won’t be picking any of the new stuff up.

Hashut’s Blessing:

If you check out all of the new releases, you’ll find how many superold models come out in Finecast - check out the Space Wolves new releases and it’ll give you an idea.

Thommy H:

As I said, it’s not an old model that’s been re-released: it’s been available the whole time. It’s in the colour section of the previous Vampire Counts book, without any indication that it’s anything but a regular Necromancer model.

cornixt:

It wasn’t so much that I was surprised at it being rereleased, but that it keeps on hanging in, even after the obvious way of just not selling it any longer. But they actively chose to do it as finecast.

Thommy H:

It’s not like it costs them anything - in fact, it saves money, because the material costs are less. I’m not sure if they have to do a new mould or not, but even then they’d just use a metal figure as a master to make one and that’s about it. It’s really win-win. They’d probably convert everything over to Fincast right away if the repackaging and re-branding wasn’t logistically unfeasible.

All the Finecasts have to be made in new moulds. Considering they have a new plastic Necromancer it's bit surprising they choose to spend the money converting these old metals into Finecast. Apparently they sell.
Then again I saw Ragnar Blackmane Finecasted. Seriously, one of the most iconic SM characters might deserve a new model. It looks absolutely pathetic in comparison to the new line. Take advantage of the new medium if it's so bloody great.

Did Nagash make it into finecast yet? It would be a poor choice, but ya never know. I'd wishlist the Kev Adams zombies.

As for serious artifacts still produced in metal, I'll point to the SG Reaver Titan that was released in Jan 1989.:cheers

Hopefully nagash's mini will never see the light of day ever again.x.x

Dante and Abaddon also need new minis. Dante looks tiny compared to the Sangurary Guard, and as for Abaddon. Warmaster of chaos, smaller than a random chaos lord? Riggggghhhhhhtttttt.

Xander:

It’s a great mini. I used to have it.

The Charioteer
You can still buy it in metal from GW. Pretty much the only thing in the Vampire Counts Collector's range. I guess collectors are pretty odd people.

I don't deny that. Lot's of old models should be updated. They just happened to wave the SW and I was thinking they could have done so much better. Abaddon looks fairly ok compared to the static awfulness that is Ragnar compared to rest of the line.
I expect a new Abaddon for the new CSM codex though.

theforgefather:

Which army does Nagash come from?

Thommy H:

He doesn’t. Nagash was a special character when Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts were all one army simply known as Undead. He represents a sort of weird middle-ground - Nagash’s army is the only one that can contain both the spectral and recently raised elements of the Vampires with the sun-bleached legions and chariots of Khemri. This original unified origin is why you get slightly odd references in the fluff to things like Ghoul tribes living near the Southlands. It all used to be one army.

If he was brought back now, he’d have to have his own army list, probably not unlike Heinrich Kemmler’s “Army of the Barrows” that appeared in White Dwarf a few years ago.
