can’t beat some good old Iron Maiden :cheers

two_heads_talking:

it depends on my mood. There are so many different types of music than just metal… In fact metal is such a shallow pool, it gets old really quick…

Thommy H:

I like the old title better - it makes my joke actually work instead of looking ridiculous.

What type of metal is Iced Earth? Th Glorious Burden was an amazing album.

GRNDL:

The poll is very frustrating. I like so many forms of metal that I cannot easily pick one. I settled on Black metal, because that’s where I feel the heart and soul of it all is. Death metal would be the second choice, if I could have one.

@two_heads_talking

Sure, there is, but this poll is about metal. I disagree with the “metal gets old fast” line of thinking too - that is a matter of preference. I’ve enjoyed metal since I was 11 and still do. Shallow? Hhahah. The variety is there, you just need to know what to look for. I would say it is as varied, if not more so, than many other genres of music.

@Swiss Dictator

Power metal I think.

How dare you.

Iced Earth is power metal. IMO its not the best power metal. I prefer sonata arctica and dragonforce.

I had to vote for Black Metal, but i actually listen to Symphonic Black Metal like Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Limbonic Art etc. Im not that much of a fan of just plain Black Metal like Mayhem. I like Melodic Death Metal just as much though. Amon Amarth has to be one of the greatest metal bands ever. Viking Metal is a tough one cause a lot of bands you would think of as viking metal dont think of themselves as viking metal, like amon amarth which consider themselves melodic death so im going to say pagan metal should be on the list cause Equilibrium are gods of pagan black metal.

Swissdictator:

Pyro, while they have some wonderful performances with the guitar, the vocals of Dragonforce put me off somewhat. I’m a fan of deep base or low notes. It’s very hard for me to describe.

The best metal song I’ve heard (though this is from a somewhat limited range) is “The High Water Mark” from Iced Earh’s solo album. The minute or so long instrumental part in between Lee/Longstreet discussing the plan and the “The rebel cannon break the silence” is just… perfect… at least for my tastes. Also the beginning of “Deceleration Day” is ideal for my tastes too.

Maybe I’m just picky… but I’m also asking for advice as to where my tastes really are… as I don’t really know where they fit. I confess I have much older parents and my siblings were out of the home by the time I was in grade school… so I haven’t really explored metal and hard rock until the last year or two.

I was speaking of music collectively. metal is just a small genre (element) of music in general. I've listened to metal since there was a distinction from Rock and metal, and in that it's obvious that metal tries to seperate itself from the larger bodies of musical water and become more and more like lakes or dead seas, in that the more it seperates, the more it's cuts it's own throat..

Just to keep it in the musical/water theme of things. hehe..

What I'm not saying, and what it appears you seem to think I'm saying, is that metal sucks.. I've not said that at all.

GRNDL:

Think of this: there is every other genre of music AND then there is METAL. Metal can be combined with many other, if not ALL other, genres of music and you get something cool. The same cannot be said for other genres. Have you heard any rap-country, or jazz-disco, and if so, how well will it be remembered?

Thus, I offer forth, the idea that Metal transcends Music and is its own force apart from it. Metal, if you like, is bigger than music of all other genres, simply because it includes every and all music and then adds itself. I suppose you could argue it the other way, but that’s not very metal.

There is a reason Duncan Hill’s coffee chose Dethklok to do their advertisements.

Kera foehunter:

music is music metal to big band it away of expression!!!

and when you can enjoy all music!!! that there will be no one type better than the rest!!

also remember one day you will be old and young people will laugh at your music!!

Swissdictator:

I heard some Amon Amarth "The Pursuit of Vikings"

I heard the other songs on the album, seriously considering buying the album.

zorn sabretooth:

@swiss: Amon Amarth Rock!!!

Godbob thinks metal is just screaming. What an idot

Kera foehunter:

Zorn it hurt his ears!!! you forgot he a dog

swissdictator
Pursuit of Vikings is on Fate of Norns i think, imo one of their worst albums, so if you like that then you should like the rest of their stuff. Their latest two albums are more professionally recorded so they have a slightly different sound to the rest of their albums.
