[Archive] Zanzibar - The game of fantasy nations

TheVoice:

Thank you kindly to the GMs for permission to post this advertisement.

Have you ever played a Warhammer campaign and found yourself, as the old rulebook warned you might, getting carried away with the possibilities on offer? The intrigue, the politics, the espionage, grand strategy and careful resource management? The chance to let your imagination loose on ships and super weapons?

Zanzibar is a free, community-centred and forum based strategy and roleplaying game that combines the free-form flexibility and scope for imagination of traditional roleplaying games with the competitive edge of pvp strategy gaming. Players take the role of the rulers and senior figures in self-designed fantasy nations.

In the course of an era (game) team leaders will be responsible for forging alliances, fulfilling the desires of your gods, defending your territory and waging war in a fantasy world. Other players take the role of Seconds, powerful lieutenants inside kingdoms who command armies, lead strike teams, rule provinces or do whatever else they and their team leader can think up.

After every turn is processed, the public events are written up into a grand story, written by the game masters and some of the players (I particularly recommend “Terror in the Depths” and “Marshes of Shadow”, which describe between them the very unhappy end of a classical Dwarven team from last era ;)).

We’re just about to embark upon our sixth era, so this is a great time to check the game out. If you fancy taking at shot at writing and submitting a culture there’s a friendly community of old hands in the Culture Critique forum ready to help you, and if you’d prefer to be a second the selected teams will start recruiting in just a couple of weeks!

Please feel free to ask if you’ve any questions, thanks for reading.

ROFL....:cheers

Bloodbeard:

It sounds like a great project. But I don’t see myself having time for a game like that.

Zanzibar was the name of a great rum bar in my hometown. Absolutely fantastic joint. Half price on all rum every and all wednesday. High school thursdays were always tough.

If you play as a second the time commitments are quite limited. Perhaps an hour, maybe two, every couple of weeks to do your orders. It is perfectly possible to play well and enjoyably as a second with concise orders and a narrow but interesting range of responsibilities.

This! Haha. And a multiplayer map in Halo 2...

Macedonia is a long way from Toronto. That must have been a fun vacation. :P

The last post got away from me. I grew up in Scarberia, those who live in Hog Town, or the GTA know what I'm talking about.

TheVoice:

This irritated me at the time, but coming back to it I just want to say that I don’t think that hijacking someone’s thread with a load of completely off-topic posts about strip clubs of all things is at all polite - or at least it wasn’t when I was last properly active.

Please try to treat people trying to introduce their new ideas and projects with a little more respect.

Link doesn’t work. That’s sad :frowning:

Also, Calm down pal.
