Come and join me in raising your voices in praise of the mighty Hashut, such that he may bless this army blog with fast drying layers and seemless blends, with transfers that never crinkle and with packages that travel expediently to my home!
Hello everyone I’m ChaosBlack, from the UK. I am very new to Chaos Dwarves, though have been playing Warhammer Fantasy since 6th edition (not playing but interested since 5th)
I put in a large order last night with a 3D printer on Etsy, along with some supplemental purchases from eBay - I have the following on the way -
2x characters on Bale Taurus
20 blunderbuss with command
20 bow hobgobs with command
20 classic GW black orcs with command
2x iron demon
This will be what I’m painting to begin with, based on a very elite T7 list… Then I will just add new stuff here and there once I have something to play with.
I’m going to be looking towards a more ‘traditional’ looking scheme - red lamalar armour, black trimming, gold incidental details. Big black beards, ruddy flesh and clean tusks. I’m not too hot on super detailed bases so no lava flows for me - I’ll be sticking to dark earth and a few tufts! My painting style is very clean and particular so I’m hoping they will look ok (I’ve ordered a couple of Helsmiths of Hashut singles to just do some test painting on)
So thank you for reading and hopefully following along with my blog - for the glory of Hashut!
21 Black Orcs, with command. You know, I really do love middlehammer monopose plastics. They just take me right back to my first forays in to our local store, and seeing these brightly coloured units being pushed around green felted tables.
I need to work out what banner I plan to use with these and then I’ll get to priming and painting!
This obviously this isn’t the style of model I’ll be using, and it’s incomplete but I think this is where I am - light stone/bone armour, occasional brass details and black cloth. I’ve gone for a ruddier skin with red noses which are normally un-chaos-dwarves but I think it adds a bit of Wario to them, which I enjoy.
I’m aware that it’s very bright - the Brawniac models I’ll actually be using won’t have so much of the armour exposed, and be mixed in with the weapons and some leather boots and pouches and wood hafts… But it’s on my radar that I might change the scale colour to a metallic down the line
And then we move on to the black orcs - the chaos dwarfs are STILL making their way to me, and now look to be delayed so we are making do with these green guys.
I’m doing a block of 21, getting close to being finished and thought I would run one ahead, get an idea of how it will end up and then get some sun lit photos as it’s so nice out side
Due to some importing issues, it may be that my chaos dwarfs take a slightly different direction and use Helsmiths - not a bad problem to have, I enjoy working with plastics the most and they are nice models.
Another test model anyway, taken all the way through - I’ve tried to go a little dirtier on the white armour this time and fully finished the metals and beard to where I would want it
I like general direction. Blue beards are good. Armour is messy, but its ok. I would say it needs some dark brown wash in recesses. It up to You if You won’t more dirty worn look.
Nose is perfect!
I don’t like golden parts, but I generally don’t like pure metallic paints.
A couple of iron demons complete over the last couple of days
Tried to keep it simple - cold iron, and clean brass. They will both get some kind of coalgrot or engineer down the line but I’d happily put them on the table as it.
These were my first substantial 3d print kit, and honestly I didn’t love working with them - there’s just something about plastics and metals that just… Fit better the wheels on these were especially difficult to get ‘good enough’. But they are here, and they are done!
Lots of plastics turning up early next week so conversion and building will be the order of the week!
I’m pleased overall - these are my first ever dwarf minis, and definitely a “better at arms length” army. I’m not messing around with eyes, and the highlights are definitely bold and broad which is fine. I do like the converted Warriors and really think the round shields and axes help move these away from AoS a bit.
I think these read well for a table top game… The edge highlights are clean and details like eyes you can always come back and do later. Look forward to seeing more from you!
As the Chaos Dwarf army steadily moves forward we have a pretty quick and simple paint job on two Bale Taurus - one in mottled silver with red horns and hooves and one in tarnished brass with green hooves and horns.
They perhaps aren’t as detailed or accomplished as some other I have seen, but they are done (well varnish on the base still drying, and needs some tufts! But done enough)
