This warms my heart… I feel to much better about my current predicament after seeing your score. Are we seeing who ends the year with the highest score??? Christmas is coming you know …
We might well be in a competition for highest (positive) score this year. I’ve just learned that I’m going to have to go in for more surgery soon, which will probably take out my painting ability for the rest of the year.
Pray to Walhut for me, comrades!
Great work and wishing you the best during your recovery dude!
I stole some time here and there over the last week to build and paint most of the Adeptus Arbites kill team I mercurially added to the pile - mostly to ensure that I would have enough parts on hand to build the Heresy Militia units I wanted out of the kit, while not sacrificing my ability to build a functioning kill team.
I also decided I wouldn’t put in too much effort, so these are done almost entirely in Slapchop:
I took some philosophy from Tabletop Minion’s Stop Painting So MUCH video on this one.
I have 8 more dudes to build, and am considering what loadout I’ll give them, but it will probably have to wait until after my hospital stay.
Thanks @Hotstuff for the well wishes!
I’m counting the cyber-mastiff against my mini count, but not the little floating loudspeaker drone, so this is 13 off the pile.
BATG Score: +118
I had a spare couple of hours, so I painted the nearest minis to hand:
A rapier gun carriage for my Heresy Death Guard (which doesn’t count towards BATG) and the two crew (which do).
I didn’t do anything special for these guys, just followed the same steps as my other Death Guard.
2 off the pile.

20 Genestealer Neophyte Hybrids:
They were less than half price, I couldn’t not.
I think I’m shooting for the moon this year, whatever my plan was. I still have a few things I’m working on, but no way am I getting down to zero before year’s end.
BATG Score: +136
I have picked up a Reductus Saboteur:
I had another surgery, and as is tradition I’ve bought myself a little present. This one is going to become a standard bearer, for my Heresy Militia.
Considering I’m knackered, and have things (Christmas) to do, there won’t be any big surprises coming to pull me out of the fire. I have about 30 models on the painting desk, and I might finish them by end of year but it’ll be pretty close to the line if that does happen. I’m not going to go spare blowing out my pile of shame, but… yeah. I think I’m just going to accept my failure this year.
One on the pile.

This week I have completed an Iron Hands tactical squad.
I actually started painting these a few weeks ago.
When I took time off for my surgery but it was delayed, I decided I’d try to assemble and paint some of my Saturnine box during my leave, and instead of painting them in my existing Death Guard colours, I decided on Iron Hands. The Saturnine terminators didn’t really fit my plans for Death Guard and I wasn’t sure my colour scheme would work well - I’ve got a Leviathan Dreadnought that I started painting and it’s stalled for colour scheme reasons.
So, in the interests of having some Astartes allies for my Heresy Militia, I decided on Iron Hands. They seemed like they’d be easy to paint (lol) and their theme worked well with what I have imagined for my Militia. I started building and got 1200 points built and primed, with the Saturnine Dreadnought waiting for another building day to cap off a 1500 point project.
Unfortunately, I got sick a week in and only got this one tactical squad nearly completed. Now, post-surgery, I polished off the bases and the resin bits that I was doing separately (because they didn’t arrive in the mail until after I’d started painting).
Also, funny thing: I hate painting metallics. I’m leaning heavily on Vallejo Metal Colour Steel and Copper most of the time, or drybrushing, so the oily metallic black on these guys was mostly drybrushed and then gone over with diluted contrast paint. However, the trim? The trim was too fiddly if I just left it and too dark if I just used VMC Steel, so I pulled out the Ironbreaker and mixed with some Canoptek Alloy for depth of colour and it was absolute hell to get the consistency right. As a result, I might just cope with it being darker on the other units.
Anyway, that’s another last-minute project and ten painted minis off the pile. We’ll see if I get anything else painted this year.

Positive or negative, this is a great year of hobby blogging. I’m right up there with you in the triple digit positives and you completed way more models! I count that a win. I see you’ve already started a 2026 liver eating log. Looking forward to it!
Thanks Reaver, I do this for my fans ![]()
Final count for the year is:
BATG Score: +137
I’ve got a net +41 Shame Golf Adjustments (preorders and unit completions). I only actually completed seven units of 5 models or more! That puts my final Adjusted Shame Golf Score at 178 over par.
To get more granular, I’ve got 100 more unassembled models than I did at the start of the year, about 50 more assembled and about 50 more primed. So, I’ve slowed down not just on painting, but on building and priming as well. I didn’t even sell many models!
If I were to be hard on myself, I’d call that a poor performance. This is the first time since I started BATG that I’ve painted less than 200 models in a year.
I will, however, go easy on myself. I had a domleth of a year in 2026, starting out with major surgery, a serious infection and a multi-day hospital stay before the year was a week old. From there I’ve had some challenges at work, trouble with my family, a bumpy ride with my other hobbies and never really recovered from the first round of surgery - ultimately going back under the knife in early December. It’s been hard.
Ultimately I spent a lot of the year tired, sick, or busy with “real life”, not really in the zone to get as much hobbying done as in previous years.
All that has meant quite a bit of buying new stuff “for morale”, too. My little diversions into Space Sharks and Word Bearers both meant buying stuff I wasn’t really going to paint. I got very excited about Sentinels, too, and now I have quite a few more than I’ll really need. With Horus Heresy releasing in the middle of the year (and the Militia rules being delayed a few months on top of that) I got a boost of extrinsic motivation to buy big when all I really wanted was the new rules and MkII armoured dudes. All up, I think I added at least 60 Heresy-era space marines to the pile that haven’t been painted, and this is all on top of my big boost of “I’m bored in hospital and the painkillers tell me to buy Militia” shopping right out of the gate.
Well, it’s the 2nd of January and don’t have anything in the mail yet, so I’m on a stronger start than I was in 2025. Reset the clock!
I’ll have thoughts about what I’m doing next, in my BATG thread for 2026:
Hey my final score was +137 as well ha. I too am behind my last year blitz of +111 on Jan 1. Things are looking up! (Or perhaps down)
+137 twinsies!
Things are certainly… looking. They’re just looking.
