Golden Hat XL: Musician

Interesting. Some loosely hazy ideas forming. Will do my best to enter this one.

Mmmmm. It doesn’t really fit the theme of my army but I’ll give it a go

Once more we are summoned before the Throne of Hashut to display our paltry contributions to his great design. Musicians this time! Ahh Music, mistress of our passions, that echoes the rhythms of love, industry and war. It is heard in the chants of the acolytes, the tramp of boots, the class of shields, the crack of a whip and the cries of a frustrated design team.

Come Igor. It is time to get the artistic juices flowing. Summon the workers! Round up the artists! Prepare the blender! We have great work to do!

Oh no, not the blender!

My Lords, I am beginning to worry about Igor. Now don’t misunderstand me, the project is proceeding with remarkable speed. It is just Igor himself. He seems, well how should I put it, worryingly unconcerned. Even, dare I say it, happy! It is most disconcerting. I went to inspect my creation only yesterday (unannounced of course) and he was not even flustered! On the contrary he appeared relaxed of all things.
Admittedly he then reverted to type and started spouting his incomprehensible engineering nonsense. Apparently there were some temperature control problems and the whole thing needed cooling. That and more grooves apparently. Why anything would need more grooves etched on it I don’t know, but apparently it did not have enough. He then blathered on about things needing tuning in (engines I presume) and staff that needed ‘dropping out’ (it seems finally that Igor has learned the importance of culling ineffective workers, although why dropping rather than the traditional flaying I don’t know. Youngsters and their fads I guess). Well by this time I was finding Igor even harder to follow than usual. I have to admit I was quite discombobulated. Whether this was due to Igors’ uncharacteristically relaxed manner or the quite pestilential fumes of the workshop I do not know. Really, the smoke down there is appalling, one could hardly breathe.
Still as I said the project continues on schedule. More surprising is that it is on budget! I can not think where Igor has made the savings considering how much the catering bill has increased.

These are indeed troubling accounts from your forge, brother.

MyBrothers, I am finding this present project most worrisome. On the face of it all seems well. The construction continues at Breakneck speed and I have not even had to order any. No, it is Igor. I have just had the most unsettling interview with him. Firstly he came to see me. Normally getting Igor to report to me requires a strongly worded memo, 3 Ironsworn and a bull centaur. This time he came to give me an update on the work. Voluntarily! Updates usually have to be wrung from him (I have a machine specifically designed for this patent pending).

Well, as if this was not enough to concern me his appearance was quite extraordinary. He was bedecked in coloured beads and feathers. Feathers for Hashut’s sake., and his beard was clearly un-curled and un-oiled. Worse he then lounged. Yes my Lords there is no other word for it, he lounged in the chair opposite myself to give his report. I must say I was so taken aback I could hardly pay much attention to his wittering. Although apparently the project has now been appropriately chilled and is at the correct low temperature (to be honest I did not think that any particular temperature was required. Being the creative genius I leave the details to the engineers). Furthermore it also now has completely the correct amount of grooves (No, I still do not know their importance). Igor did mention something about the workforce excavating in or around the project, which sounded unnecessary to me but I was not really concentrating.

If all this was not extraordinary enough Igor then presented me with a list of demands for the project… Demands! It was at this point I realised that he was seriously unwell and that the stress had all proved too much for him. I hardly needed to listen to his list for further evidence of his mental instability. That said, does anyone know what ‘mind windmills’ are? Who Venus is and exactly why she would need to be in animal pelts? To be honest I was quite shocked that he wanted me to ignite his forge! No engineer worth his salt would ever have let it go out in the first place. The final straw was when he insisted I play a tambourine for him. Me…a tambourine!

Poor Igor. I had to have him removed and placed in the care of our best therapists. They tell me that having thoroughly assessed Igor with the best analytic tools available (I have seen these and they are very clever, and particularly sharp). They have diagnosed Pre-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Apparently the treatment for this is intensive Trauma Therapy. They tell me they expect that they will have put Igor back together in two weeks. Although I am warned that he may remain fragile for a while. At least untill the stitches are out.

I have therefore decided to halt the project for a fortnight. Indeed it will take that long to clear the stench from the workshops. I do wonder what Igor has been burning down there.

Great, you made my day! I love the messages regarding Igor!

I hope Igor recovers after the trauma therapy and will present a terrific entry! :chaos1:

Didn’t think I was going to be able to make it for this one but I’ve just had an idea. I’m only going to have a small window to get it finished in but I can’t miss out on the 40th GH.

@Uther.the.unhinged Just brilliant!.. Definitely ups the suspense. What could Igor have been building?

So… I have an Idea. Currently sourcing parts. If I can get them ordered this week… and assuming they fit… there is a chance it may come together in time.

To be honest my lord Jackswift, I myself am never quite sure exactly what Igor is building at any point! Sadly he never seems quite able to bring my majestic concepts to life. Such are the trials and tribulations that we, who are blessed with the vision and creative intelligence to conceive that which lies beyond the mundane, beyond the possible are faced with. We who can see further and farther are constantly let down by underlings with feet of clay. No matter my lords, we will endure. The spirit is a hard thing to break, even with power tools.

@Uther.the.unhinged : “…even with power tools.” :smiley:

Deadline extended to the 15th of January. Holiday season with cheers and family make the last contest of the year extra prone to it, no worries. Here goes, @KhamdrimSkyMaster .

God jul!

Thanks man! Much appreciated!!

technically it might not be the last contest of this year now. If I don’t start anything until the new year.

It’s a mute point anyway. I’ve finally gotten the emissaries on their way to MichaelX and I have a small selection of musicians started

The extension is appreciated, though for once I’ve started build weeks in advance. First contest I’ve been able to get into mentally in a while. I’m having fun with this one, and have managed to corral my initial ridiculously complex idea into something less convoluted. Sometimes putting all ideas at once into a final product is just too much. Decided to work with bits and models that I have rather than making any purchases. Looking forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with… including Igor.

I think I’ve got an entry worthy of this XL :hat7:
Pictures need to be revisited but I’m happy with the number of old ideas that can be crossed off the to-do. Although… I expect each and every one will be replaced by a new musician concept saved from the glorious gallery of this contest.

Well, model built, and finally got a suitable coat of primer on yesterday. Paint is proceeding slowly. Was hoping to be done early, but starting to look like I am going to be down to the wire… again.
