Wow! This is top notch. Fantastic Kroot. I prophesy that Xander will grace the list of CDO sculptors who have produced miniatures for sales in the future.

I have really no clue of the Kroot fluff but I love the look of them.

@TheHoodedMan: They are martial birdmen living in feral tribes, yet with spacefaring technology. Kroot biology can incorporate DNA from those they eat, and the Kroot are led by Shapers who shape their kin by selective eating for advantageous traits (e.g. there is a mention of a clumsy female individual, who was served the raw meat of agile animals).

Possibly, the Kroot’s unlikely knack for high technology comes from eating Ork Mekboy DNA, given how the Orks were a weird bio-weapon crafted by the Old Ones. Larger fauna on the Kroot homeworld is almost entirely made up of various distantly related branches of Kroot, having outcompeted other families of creatures. There are some animal or semi-sentient Kroot variants in the army list, intentionally shaped into hound and gorilla-like forms over generations to serve specialist roles.

The very warlike Kroot are excellent hunters and are part of the Tau Empire as valued auxilliaries adept at close combat. The Tau are very uneasy about their allies’ battlefield cannibalism. Many Kroot roam freely as mercenaries and can be found in the service of whoever pay best, including some Inquisitors of the Ordo Xenos who make use of their stealthy tracking skills.

There is a fun incident in the first Ciaphas Cain book where the Kroot’s consciously gene-assimilating cannibalism collide with an explanation they are given of how Genestealer Cults work within a population. This have disastrous results for everyone involved in the joint Imperial & Tau recon force, as a few hidden Kroot try to destroy the captured head of a kinsman in a grand hall filled with thousands of Genestealer/Human hybrids. The flesh must not fall into such enemy’s hands. This misunderstanding cost the Kroot and most other scouts their lives.

Thanks everyone!

With Adepticon being canceled, the #SiegeOfPech teams are being increased for Adepticon 2021. That means I just might put together 1000 points worth of these Swampy Kroot.
