I appreciate everyone’s warm welcome here and as promised, went down stairs to my toyroom / dungeon o’ all things fun and happy and was assaulted by a roughian bunch of dwarfs with big hats. Fortunately, I was able to get some photographic evidence, to share with people here. The hoard seemed small at first, but opening up a few drawers found quite a lot of blue dwarf potential. “The furnaces seemed quiet, but the truth is, to escape the cold, Karakh Ddukk had dug deeper into the ice, and in doing so, found both ice and fire in its midst.” Not a complete record for sure, but it’s a start to figuring out how to make these into killer pieces to wow visiters and potential workers in the mines! LOL
This is just the beginning. I checked the stocks: we have a bunch more that we can add, that I never got to before. I picked up pretty much all of the stock of a local games store years ago and it’s just kinda been here… I still have a pile left to do, including a Lamassu, a Taurus, 2 Earthshakers, a bolt thrower, a bag full of Sneaky Gits, a group of Hobgobbo axemen, more blunderbuses, and a partridge and a pear tree… Hashut lives in the land of the ice and snow brothers! Believe it!
He was from Rackham, a french company that I went crazy for when they came out with their super models years ago… I think they are long since OOP and gone the way of the dodo.
I know there’s no official permission for chariots with Gobbos, but I always thought I could rebase this scratch piece too and make it fit this group. I have a second chariot too (I was on a gobbo kick for a while - came up with enough goodies to populate a little raid team.) that currently needs to be fixed that would fit with too. I think I even based it with a snow base, though from the years, it looks like the snow was pissed on by a stampede of Rhinox from aging. LOL
Hi folks! Thought people would enjoy shots of the most recent addition, minus basing, flags, and trays, oh my!.. I present Hashut’s Fire - a group of now 10 but in total 26 I believe blunderbuses to add to my lovely little group of minis I’ve got around here. I had started this group and posted initial shots of this in my intro here the other day, but finished the painting tonight. All my trays are custom wooden trays I carve. I try to do them as I make the units, just so I can keep things together. I say try because well, I wasn’t always so disciplined… Anyway, I always feel good when I get a group of 10 done. It feels like it’s a decent effort.
Enjoy the shot. I have this to wrap up and work has started on a Bale Taurus with Sorcerer with some custom work. I pulled out the putty for this one, mainly because it’s a centerpiece model. I actually had AI help me come up with general layouts of the piece… Yeah, 20 years ago, when I started these, that wasn’t around… LOL Kinda fun to see a rough sketch before you paint…
One of the things I am noticing here is that being that this is a 20 year old project, there’s lots of things that beg things to tie it together more… I agree that this unit “pops” with complimentary contrast.I may have to go back and “level up” some of the models to do more of this. My thoughts there is that maybe it could be a “status” thing in the group - but initially, the idea was I called this unit “Hashut’s Fire” - so it was a unit thing. IDK, it’s part of the fun of doing these over time; you get to think about the next step and things evolve as you paint them…
Hi guys. Thought to try to get some shots of the newest units I’m working on. I think I mentioned that I have been working on these in my intro post.
Almost finished, meaning all but the banner, on these Chort blunderbuses. The unit will be called Hashut’s Fire - so I kinda went with a fire beard theme on these. I’m liking the results enough I’m tempted to go back and make all my evil ompah loompahs look like this… It stands out I think.
Then sneak shots of a couple of Hobgoblin Cutthroats. These guys are on the front line, so I’m trying to give them a little extra attention. Hope the pics are good enough to make out the general sceme. Not done yet, but it’s enough to give everyone an idea… I know that Hobgoblins aren’t really a unit that many people give a lot of attention to, but I am absolutely in love with the sculpts. So, artist me stepped in and said, hey, let’s give them a little love…
Enjoy the pics - When the units are finished, I’ll share pics again. I also need to share pics of the sculpt I’m working on for the Bale Taurus - he’s a bit of a project still so, bare with me on that, when I’m ready, I’ll be sure to show it off.
Hi guys. I figured it’s only fair since others are posting progress shots to share as well. I’ve been working hard on 2 fronts; I want a Bale Taurus with sorcerer for a centerpiece of my group here, so I have been sculpting, trying to come up with something original. I’m practiced to that end, but I admit, I’m not going to win prizes. This is my efforts though so far to create a dynamic Bale Taurus and the start to the sorcerer, who I plan on adding a back to his seat / saddle (just cause I really do like the look). As well, while clay dries, I’ve been working on Hobgoblin cutthroats and thinking more about Hobgoblin troops in general (including some wolf riders, a Khan, and those chariots I’ve mentioned. This is where I’ve gotten so far… Not horrible work for one week, but I suspect last week I had more time than this week coming.
I appreciate the kind words… I need to work on the fire, I’m not happy with it yet, but I need a block of time to really work on that. I regret that I didn’t take more shots of the infrastructure here, but I pretty much used toothpicks and beads I had that I put into cork. Apoxy is gorgeous for this kind of work… The base is cork that I sculpted over, the green stuff actually is half and half with milliput, it’s just a lot easier to work with honestly. I know that’s contraversial, but I said it and I’m sticking to it… I’ve got in my head a paint scheme for the bull likened actually to Total War’s version, kinda, sorta, maybe, -ish, etc etc. I am leaning to more purple than the black/brown base though, at least it will make an appearance. I definitely want the fire “tips and toes” for this though, That speaks to me. Another thing I really love about some of the sculpts I’ve seen by others is to make the seat more of a throne, and I want to go in that direction, with plasticard, clay, and some bits. I have the flag posts too, and like the idea that they would stand high from the back of that seat. I haven’t thought much though about what that will mean. Anyway, that’s where I am so far. Hope some chorfling years later sees this and finds some inspiration, or not? I just have the need to burn really… LOL
