Okay, so this song ain’t exactly dark, grim or whatever…but it’s one of my favorite songs and has always reminded me of Chaos Dwarfs calling out to their Hobgoblin allies to muster arms, gather their wolves and march off to war.
The lyrics are perfect.
I will now do… a thread necromancy.
The track is only 1m50s or so, but it is powerful dark drums and the use of one of the world’s few Octobasses (@Habitual_Lurker would know more about this than I would) give it a strong flavour of Chaos Dwarf to me.
Man this really sounds like old 1980’s DIO. I like
While painting my army i really loved listening to the album Battlespells by Warmoon Lord. So much that i call my general the Warmoon Lord
I can really imagine the lammasu hovering over the army, the Sorcerer screaching his spells. The music has something relentless and evil, but also pompous and majestic. Its definitely what my army marches to
Glad that you did! I’ll be having a field day with this
Don’t have anything to contribute, I’ll have to give it a big think
I never forgot this thread because it was a big neon sign indicating i am out of touch with the rest of the community, who are all apparently all metal fans.
MANOWAR, MANOWAR,MANOWAR
“The heart of steel”
Burn the bridge behind you.
Leave no retreat.
There’s only one way home.
Feel free to see if you like anything! It’s just one big Warhammer playlist with a lot of variety but primarily metal.
Nah I like a bit of metal but it’s probably less than 10% of what I listen to. When playing whfb I want something acoustic anyway.
And I’d love to know where they GOT an octobass for the dune thing - either they borrowed one from a museum or had it custom built for the piece, you just can’t buy them afaik. Ain’t nobody got room for a fifteen foot upright.
I mean it’s Hans Zimmer working for Denis Villeneuve, they had pull and money. What he did with it is probably typical zimmer antics, he’s quite piratical given his lack of formal training. He inserts himself quite forcefully into the sound design space with stuff like that, not to mention feyd rautha’s arena scene, where he fully helps himself to the crowd noise
If it weren’t for the budget I’d assume it had just been sound modelled - virtual instruments are worryingly good these days.
On a movie like that, finding ten grand to get something scratch built probably wouldn’t be too big a deal though.
I’d love to see someone play it, you must have to use a shallow angle and prop up the neck on a stand. A regular double bass weighs a ton and you can only comfortably play it because it’s…well, upright.
Maybe you just have to stand on a stepladder.
Something different, a little bit silly… but this is the song that kind of got me back into chaos dwarfs
Welp, found my next black metal album to buy!
