Assyrian Art Styles
True to ancient Mesopotamian form, the art styles of Assyria were intricate with repetitive patterns, angularity, fringed dress and hair and beard carefully arranged with curling iron.
Assyrians believed that the entrance and corners of rooms needed to be guarded by protective spirits, for which purpose Assyrian palaces were equipped with gateway lamassu statues and relief carvings of guardian demons. The massive stone statues required a lot of coordinated manpower to haul into place.
