I have also migrated all the old uploads (the ones uploaded before the Staff Announcement: Storage migrated to Amazon S3 happened) to the AWS storage for consistency and backup purposes. AWS has backups implemented in their basic plan so we can leave the images out of the backups.
This required all the posts to be rewritten to the new location. I checked my own blog and i see my first post has been changed to AWS.
On the Discourse discourse there are some threads about this not working for 100% of the uploads.
That’s what this thread is for. I moved the original images folder on the discourse server to another location. In theory this should not matter as all images are now on AWS. If you notice any issues with locally hosted images not displaying anymore please reply here with a link to the post in question.
After a certain amount of time has passed we will delete the local folder and rely on AWS for image hosting.
