Wew lads, update on the army has been long overdue. Been sidetracked on multiple other projects but been grinding these on the side, finally starting to look good but still got long way to go. I finally have all the hobbogobbos I need, 30 more to paint after these. Getting the colors right was quite a process, I didn’t like them green and settled on orange.
Beautifully executed, and a striking color scheme. I look forward to seeing more of your army as you make progress.
Incredible Lammasau as well!
Here’s a quick mock up of what the unit of Hobgoblin Archers are going to look like, they still need washes and highlights. I won’t glue them to their bases before I have finished them, don’t want to mess the bases. Bit off a hassle to paint them like this.
And here we are, all hobgoblins done, minus minor clean ups. All glued and varnished, ready to run away from table on first sight of trouble. I repainted their eyes to glowing orange instead of yellow ones with pupils, looked more menacing and scheming. Really happy how these turned out but oh boy was it a workload. I still got the blunderbusses and heavy armored elite warriors to do. Thanks for your nice comments!
I recognize these 3d prints. Great models for filling in some of the gaps of my 90s wolf riders. I think the bolt thrower print looks measurably better than the original.
You did a very nice job with these models. Nothing like a horde of 40 hobgoblins to throw at a monster or Death Star unit.
Yeah these are all fabelzel models, except the lammasu. Whole army is going to be in resin, bases included. Bolt throwers sure are great and painting them was a pleasure.
Thank you, we’ll see how it goes when these finally hit the table ![]()
I just love this color scheme and how you painted them. Where the base tunic and skin is the neutral color but the bows, arrows, drum, hats, etc have the classic bright color accents. I did mine the other way around but I think your way is actually better! Very thoughtful. I’ll keep this approach in mine for future painting.
Thanks for sharing.
Having a classic Lammasu makes me especially enjoy what you did here.
Great looking army, nice scheme. What did you use to makes bases or they resin?
I pretty much aped the 40k 2nd edition painting style, which I’ve used for my Blood Angels and Ork armies. I very much like the use of bright colors to bring out the silhuette. It’s a chore to get started but end result is always worth it. I copped out on the tunics, yeah, having to paint 40 hobgobs in a row I had to make some sacrifices and the tunics were it, just light tan and brown soapy wash to get the job done quick.
I bought them from ebay seller CustomBases, very affordable and good looking resin bases. I used lava bases from same seller for my Chaos Dwarfs, I’ve only put the Lammasu on the base so far.
Had a first practice game of ToW last night, My Hobgoblins vs Warriors of Nurgle, 400pt each. I’m sure we got lot of things wrong but I think we got good grasp of the concept and our manouvering improved dramatically during the game. Low linear obstacles were quite annoying. Hobgoblin Khan really punched above his weigh class this time, chopping up three Chaos Warriors, even after getting attacked from flank and me forgetting to use my mounts attacks.
Quite inspiring, I really need to get rest painted so I get to play a larger game.
