2000 pt Cows and Cannons List

After a 15 year hiatus my brother (Tomb Kings), dad (lizardmen) and I are getting back into Old World Fantasy Warhammer. I used to play the Dwarfs back in the day and have nostalgia for them, but when I happened across the Chaos Dwarfs I fell in love with the idea of using their Bull’s as my Cows and their war machines as my Cannons creating a Cows & Cannons Army, but was wondering if this list is viable and wanted to get folks thoughts before I purchased the minis. Hello and welcome! Interesting list to say the least. What’s the reasoning behind having two lamassu?

The Hellcannon unfortunately is not that great in TOW. It being a monster, rather than a war machine, makes us unable to give it re-rolls with our Infernal engineer special rule. It’s a temperamental beast to be sure. Maybe use it as a dreadquake, if it’s because you have the Hellcannon model and wanna use it.

You have a lot of war machines in general. They aren’t the bee’s knees as they were in 8th, so don’t expect them to blast the enemy apart in short order. It doesn’t really work like that anymore.

I think you have been paying attention to the trials and tribulation’s of our battle brothers and sisters.
I really like most of your list. It reflects my to 2000 point army.
IMHO, take with a grain of salt.
As most on this site would agree I hope, would be to drop the 2 Death Shriekers at 300 points and the hell cannon at 215.
This would give you 515 points to buy a Dreadquake Mortar at 165 w/ Ogre loader for 20 and an Iron Daemon at 275 pts.
At 460 pts it would leave you 55 points extra for some magic items for the general or buy the HG Khan with bomb attached. You would have to shave a few more points to buy him magic items.
Like I said IMHO, I have 4 hell cannons in my work in progress 11 thousand point army. Soooooo.
And I am in the process of hammering together my new Forge World Iron Daemons. And I do mean hammering together, I really do think they had real Goblins making these, They suck…

For the two Lamassu they are essentially flying cows in my army so they fit the theme and seem like a pretty powerful upgrade either ways +3W and magic resistance seems great, plus… flying cows! The Hellcannon I am thinking of switching to a Dreadquake Mortar Hellhound. Def have a lot of war machines, but that’s just due to the Cannon theme. I like making parameters going into something and then try to make something interesting and fun out of that theme. Thanks for your input and the welcome :)!

I totally think that would probably be a more powerful setup but my Cannons theme calls to me. It is gonna be a bit more whimsical, but just wanna make sure its playable haha. Def thinking of switching Hellcannon for Hellbound Dreadquake Mortar. Your big army sounds awesome would love to see a picture! And I will def wait and hear currently painting some test pieces to get back in the groove! Thanks for your input really appreciate it! Also my brother just texted me and said he’s switching to the Tomb Kings so I might have to actually switch off Hellbound and the fear theme I was going for at least against him maybe?

I am thinking with facing the Tomb Kings now, that a possible compromise would be to switch Hellcannon with Dreadquake Mortar w/ ogre. Remove Hellbound from the rocket launchers and bolster my Hobgoblin Hoards with more units and the banner of Overseers Vigil. Also buff my General a bit with with a sturdier ride. I have been playing WH for around 41 years now, yes I am old.
NEVER once have i fought Tomb Kings, especially now with the new TOW rules. I have researched and watched a lot. They can be brutal. And i think they can take 2 casket of souls in a 2000 pt army, not real fun for us.
Check out Vacationist recent battle report against TK. He’s a sharp player.
Only other question I would have for you.
How do see using your LV 4 general? As a monster hunter/ fighter and risking him and your magic power?
Maybe keep him on the Lammy and stick the lv 2 with a nice monster slayer sword on the Bull?
Just a thought, That’s how I’m running.
Keep true to your Theme, it will keep you motivated.

Haha dang just my luck! He says that his daughter picked it when he asked who he should play she said: “Spooky Skeletons!” So supposedly he didn’t pick them because they are overpowered against Chaos Dwarfs… I think at least for now he won’t have 2 casket souls he might not know that he should yet and at this point I will hold that info close to the chest haha! I just watched the YouTube battle you recommend and it was good! I think You have a good point with the Bale Tarus may switch that over to my engineer sorcerer who then can protect the artillery line from other fliers? My brother did said he was gonna have his flyer dragon go right for my artillery line. Gonna be a brutal match up, but I guess Ill just have to out wit him!

Played my first game of fantasy in decades (first Old World game) and got slaughtered. It was a four player game and I got paired with lizard army against dwarves and Brittonians. Everyone had 1250 each.

I only killed one dwarf and a gyrocopter. I think I placed my hobgoblins wrong as they couldn’t act as a screening force or flank. Blunderbusses couldn’t hit anything and got flanked by flyers and my sorcerer on a Lammasu got taken to town by three knights on pegasi. Best units were the bolt throwers against the gyrocopter.

I have a long way to go…

Still it was a hilarious fight with everyone having a good time.

Good on you for staying positive! Lizardmen are in a super bad spot, in terms of competitiveness, and the Bretonnians are way up there (cause of the pegasi, specifically). Dwarfs with heavy cavalry support? I shudder even to think of it :grimacing:

Very much an uphill battle for you guys against those odds.
