2k Blunderbuss List

Hey everyone, I’m hoping to get some help with my 2000 point army list. I haven’t seen a similar build yet and was wondering if it would be worth it to build a list around the fallowing…

180 - Infernal Seneschal, Battle Standard Bearer, The Lammasu’s Beard, Mantle of Stone

235 - Sorcerer-Prophet, General, Wizard Level 3, Daemonology, Darkforged Weapon, Mantle of Stone

675 - 37 Infernal Guard, Standard Bearer, Razor Standard, Hailshot Blunderbusses, Shield

170 - 10 Infernal Guard, Hailshot Blunderbusses, Shield, Detachment

170 - 10 Infernal Guard, Hailshot Blunderbusses, Shield, Detachment

120 - Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher

120 - Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher

165 - Dreadquake Mortar

2000 Total

Any suggestion you can provide are greatly appreciated

The list seems fine. Perhaps you could explain what your strategy is for your army. That will make it easier to comment on how well this list can accomplish that.

On first blush, with 4 war machines, you might benefit from another hero with the Internal Engineer ability.

Welcome to CDO!

Mostly planning to use the war machines to force the opponent towards engaging with the Blunderbuss units. I figured I could always drop the standard for hell forged or another sorcerer if required. I’m also hoping accuracy with the war machines isn’t as much of a concern if there are 2 to 4 shots per round.

Rolling those 3+ to reload the earthshakers seems rough to me. If you are lucky…ot will be fine

Hey man, welcome! I can totally see where you’re going with this, but to be perfectly honest, and this is coming from a place of love: it’s gonna be a dreadful.

Blunderbuss spam needs travel mystical pathways to function, so you’ll need a LVL 4 with elementalism and lore familiar.

Drop the detachments, they don’t do anything for you.

Get some hobgoblin meat to soak enemy attacks, in this case probably with the overseer’s sigil somewhere.

Iron daemons are king, get 1 or even 2.

Our artillery is generally not winning games, so what you have is major overkill. As has been mentioned: no loader on the dreadquakes is borderline criminal

Check out this winning list in a recent tournament for inspiration:

Thank you, I’ll keep that all in mind  Had been hoping for a gunline build, but I see it isn’t working option for this edition

Hey there, just found your thread. O
I have had some very fun games with Blunderbusses. The face of your opponent when you roll your number of shots is magic!

As Vacationist said, you need Travel Mystical Pathways. Do not think of a gunline but rather an avoidance block. Give them Drilled as well, can come quite handy. Also full vommand of course, cause you gonna need a champ to challenge out. Get rid of the detatchments and put in somein hobos. 37 in a unit may be a bit too many, considering the 12 inch reach and arcs of vision of individual models. I found about 28 plus characters nice. Big enough to do some damage and fend off charges, not too unwieldy when teleporting around.

I like to play with the Lammasu because his mobility lets me teleport either the Blunderbusses or the Iron Demons whatever the situation demands. And in case your Brick gets tracked down in cc no one is gonna stab out your precious Sorcerer Prophet.

Have fun and tell us!

Yes, after more research I’m currently running something similar, though my list has a bit less models then is recommended

Lords

455 - Sorcerer-Prophet, Darkforged Weapon, General, Lammasu, Mace Tail, Sorcerous Exhalation, Wizard Level 4, Daemonology, Armour of Destiny, Mantle of Stone

335 - Sorcerer-Prophet, Darkforged Weapon, Wizard Level 4, Elementalism, Armour of Silvered Steel, Lore Familiar, Ruby Ring of Ruin

Core

590 - 27 Infernal Guard, Hailshot Blunderbusses, Shield, Drilled, Blackshard Armour, Deathmask, Breath of Hashut, Standard Bearer, Razor Standard

Special

310 - Iron Daemon, Steam Cannonade, Hellbound

310 - Iron Daemon, Steam Cannonade, Hellbound

That’s super tight man! I’ve played it like that against Dwarfs, where I was successful but against some faster stuff you might get outchaffed…

Looks like a fun list for friendly play… as long as your opponent is OK with exceeding army composition limits in the rare category  My buddies here give me the hairy eyeball if I’m even over by a few percent

The Iron Demons are in Special.

I will also try out 2 of them again, soon. But i will add some chaff units to get a bit more drops and meatshields.

Ah so they are… perfect!!! I missed that! Thanks for the clarification. Looks awesome then

With the second list I would suggest some minor tweaks:

  • dropping Breath of Hashut
  • dropping the Armour of silvered steel, adding a Spelleater Axe instead.
  • maybe go down a little more with the Blunderbusses to squeeze in some 10 man squads of Hobos or Gits?

Figured the Breath of Hashut in combination with the Razor Standard is for emergencies with the armour piercing 4 it provides, it may melt some knights. Though I’ll defiantly need to consider switching the Armour of silvered steel for the Spelleater Axe, great suggestion  More likely a second Lammasu for myself if I could find the points over the Hobos and Gits, having the extra wounds and a flamethrower is much preferred for the mobility on the board.

The problem with Breath of Hashut is you cannot use it as a Stand and Shoot reaction. So it may often end up useless and will just get knocked out alongside your champ in the first challenge. And oh yeah - I just got hold of a second Lammasu

Good point, in that case do you have any suggestions for improving the following?

Main Force [2000 pts]

Characters [875 pts]

Sorcerer-Prophet [430 pts]: Hand Weapon, Heavy Armour, Darkforged Weapon, Wizard Level 4, Daemonology, Elementalism, Armour of Destiny, Arcane Familiar, Lammasu (Hand Weapon, Sorcerous Exhalation)

Sorcerer-Prophet [445 pts]: Hand Weapon, Heavy Armour, Darkforged Weapon, General, Wizard Level 4, Elementalism, Armour of Silvered Steel, Lore Familiar, Talisman Of Protection, Lammasu (Hand Weapon, Sorcerous Exhalation)

Core [505 pts]

Infernal Guard [505 pts]:
• 27x Infernal Guard [17 pts]: Hand Weapon, Hailshot Blunderbusses, Heavy Armour, Shield
• 1x Standard Bearer [46 pts]: Razor Standard

Special [620 pts]

Iron Daemon [310 pts]: Steam Cannonade, Hellbound, 3x Chaos Dwarf Crew (Hand Weapon)
Iron Daemon [310 pts]: Steam Cannonade, Hellbound, 3x Chaos Dwarf Crew (Hand Weapon)

A lot of manoeuvrability with this list so long as you are successful with your Travel Mystical Pathway and Wind Blast casts. Though I don’t know if the Sorcerer-Prophets will survive on T5.

I’m honestly lacking the experience yet to tell. Could be a case of Rock Paper Scissors against certain armies. Some you might just table, against others you might find you haven’t got an angle. My biggest concern in that regard are still the undead factions as I keep struggling against them.

The list above may work to counter ethereal units or characters, but it would be safer to have more ensorcelled weapons in the roster.. a block of Ironsworn or Bull Centaurs. Not sure if the Renegades list would work better in some regards if that is an option.

Yes, I find the list awesome so far! If just there was a little room for 2 small chaff units.

Could look like this:
++ Characters [870 pts] ++
Sorcerer-Prophet [455 pts]
(Darkforged weapon, Heavy armour, Level 4 Wizard, General, Lammasu [Mace tail + Sorcerous Exhalation], Mantle of Stone, Armour of Silvered Steel, Talisman of Protection, Elementalism)

Sorcerer-Prophet [415 pts]
(Darkforged weapon, Heavy armour, Level 4 Wizard, Lammasu [Sorcerous Exhalation], Armour of Destiny, Elementalism)

++ Core Units [508 pts] ++
12 Hobgoblin Cutthroats [36 pts]
(Hand weapons, Shortbows)

21 Infernal Guard [436 pts]
(Hailshot blunderbuss, Heavy armour, Shield, Drilled, Deathmask (champion), Standard bearer [Razor Standard], Musician)

12 Hobgoblin Cutthroats [36 pts]
(Hand weapons, Shortbows)

++ Special Units [620 pts] ++
Iron Daemon [310 pts]
(Steam Cannonade, Hand weapons, Hellbound)

Iron Daemon [310 pts]
(Steam Cannonade, Hand weapons, Hellbound)

1998 Points

Of course, you lose on Blunderbusses but you gain a bit of defense against rushing armies.

I also added drilled but if you don’t take it you can go 2 Blunderbusses up instead.

Looks good  Though you may quickly lose the Blunderbusses re-rolls of 1, as it only counts for units over 20.
