2K list for tournament next week

Hi all,

I’m taking a 2K list to a tournament next Saturday. There’s a cap of one flying character and a WYSIWYG rule on the models (which is why I have additional hand weapons on the Khans for example as I’m using Hobgrot Slittaz). My plan is to have a Daemonology buffed deathstar, Taurus and Iron Daemon do most of the work. The deathstar has enough combat res to bounce off a dragon and has four guys that can stand and shoot with quickshot pistols and throwing weapons against softer targets. The champion and two Khans can accept challenges to protect Sorcerer and BSB against something scary like a King or Dragon.

If folks have any thoughts would hear them and I’ll see if I can incorporate.

Thanks!

Id be very tempted to drop some magic items and some non essential upgrades and get another decent unit in. Ogres , centaurs or kdaai should fit in

@Zoddtheimmortal here is a stripped down version to squeeze in the Centaurs (note I have to run them with shields because of the wysiwyg requirement here). What do you think?

It’s an interesting idea to try an IG death star! They do have M3, so while you can use steed of shadows to get them close to the enemy, they will then have to wait a turn before getting to charge, at which point they may not be in range anymore. A crafty opponent will avoid them, and encircle them, after dealing with the rest of your army.

Pop the obsidian vambraces on your Taurus Prophet, the magic res is really nice, and he may just get a little bit of benefit from the added strength.

Bulltaurs are fun, but they aren’t all that good, especially if you aren’t allowed to take them with great weapons.

If you have the models, go for a black orc boss on a pig with a bunch of Boyz, they will tear stuff up, for sure.

Hi @Vacationist , I do have some Blorck models but I’m deliberately trying a Chorf-only list to see how it does (plus we’re getting points for army look and my black orcs don’t share the schema so there’s an aesthetic reason as well).

I hear you about the lack-of-movement on the IG block. But my thinking was there aren’t really that many other “easy” targets except the Fireglaives, Sneaky Gitz, and Deathshrieker (which is ~320 points) so if they want big victory points they’ll have to engage with one of three harder units and then hopefully my IG will be able to throw themselves into the fray by flying to where the action is at b/c the Iron Daemon and Taurus will be hard to kill in a single round of combat. However, a highly mobile list like Wood Elves could dance around my army and pick off enough points for a win, and an empire gunline will also be very scary.

I’ve seen some videos about how Dwarfs use their slow’ish deathstar so maybe I can copy some of their approaches?

That’s totally fair. Let’s see. My go-to BSB build is silvered steel armour and great weapon. Cheap and more survivable and killy than what you have now.

Consider the Lamassu’s beard standard, maybe? I realize you want to be able to tank a dragon, but the added survivability, especially vs. shooting may just tip the scales in terms of usefulness. If you have Storm of Ash up, the dragon may not even hit anything, except with stomps. Go all in and put an ashen standard on the unit  Don’t know how many shooty lists you’ll be facing.

I’ve toyed with the idea of an ironsworn deathstar… With IG as its detachments. The consensus is generally that it’s probably only viable in higher points games, but if you’d like to try it, that’d be very cool.

Hi @Vacationist , you might be right that Lamassu’s beard my amortize better over the unit and provide a needed MR buff and ward save. I’ve made a list variant with this and Obsidian vambraces on the Taurus. Even if I don’t go first, I can position things so that all the key pieces should have a 5+ ward save against shooting.

In terms of armor on the BSB, I feel like putting anything other than a charmed shield on him won’t be points efficient? My logic was that that b/c I have so many great weapon attacks in the front, hopefully buffed by daemonic vessel, letting my BSB fight with ensorceled weapon and shield would give him a bit more surviving power and still get some up-to S5 AP-2 attacks.

I hopefully get a battle report up in the week following and let folks know how it went.

But that’s the thing. With shield he’ll still only be at 4+ armour save, since he doesn’t have full plate. Silvered steel armour at 40pts will give him 3+ and free his hands for a great weapon. He’ll be striking at initiative 2 with the hand weapon anyway, so taking a great weapon isn’t much of a downgrade, rather the opposite (unless you’re facing ethereals, in which case you’ll just opt to use the hand weapon). He’ll be expensive, I suppose, but he’ll have T5 3+ 6++ which isn’t the worst. That’s another argument for ironsworn, that you can take the Lamassu’s beard on their standard bearer and not fear losing it if the BSB dies.

Yah those are some good points. It’s too bad there’s no way to unlock Ironsworn in core, because then yes I’d definitely take it as a Lamassu’s beard bunker!

Interesting list. I look forward to hearing how it performs. :+1:
