The Artisan’s Contest: A Chaos Dwarf Online Conversion Ideas Contest

Welcome! Welcome to all! This is a contest for those that are not so inclined to paint or just like to come up with plausible ideas. It’s for those that may not be artists, but for those that wish to be artisans. This is not a modelling contest, but more of a concept contest. Good description for designs not created must be understandable. This is the first such contest and we hope it will produce many more! Either way, enjoy it!

What do I have to do?

The competition is as follows: You are to create three markers. One to show that a unit is affected by the quake effects of an earthshaker. One is to show the effects of animosity. One is to be a wound marker. These markers can take any form, the only condition is that they must be plausible and, if given the correct parts, capable of being made. If you’re unsure of what to do, our friendly forum members and staff will be glad to help you out.

Why would I want to enter a Chaos Dwarf Artisan’s contest?

Lots of reasons. Perhaps you already play Chaos Dwarfs, so this is a great reason to share some ideas. Perhaps you don’t know what to do when it comes to showing the effects of a game-in-progress. Maybe you’re getting bored of your lack of possible and plausible creations that aren’t directly playable models. It’s only an idea if you wish. Entering this contest will be fun! There’s a great prize for the winner too! The winner of this contest will receive their very own Artisan’s statuette/medal.

How does this contest work?

To enter, just register on the Chaos Dwarf Online forum (which I’m assuming you are already since you’re reading this) and PM your fully explained entries and, if you have made them, pictures to myself (that’s Hashut’s Blessing) by Sunday, the 13th of April, 2008. Entries will be posted on the website. Starting on Monday, the 14th of April, 2008, a poll shall be created for users to vote for the winning entry. (You will not be able to vote for yourself.) You have roughly six weeks, so if you need to acquire some parts, be sure to do so as soon as possible so you have ample time to prepare.

The run down:

- Create an idea for: A wound marker, a quake marker and an animosity marker.

- PM your finished and fully explained entries to myself by Sunday, the 13th of April, 2008, in the form of up to 4 pictures and a few sentences on each marker. It is recommended that if pictures/drawings are included, that you take a close-up/different angle of each individual and an overall shot of the three.

- Cast your vote starting Monday, the 14th of April, 2008. Poll lasts one week until Sunday, the 20th of April, 2008, expires.

- Winner receives a statuette/medal.

May the best Chaos Dwarf win!

Xander:

Well said!

In the past we have had some suggestions from users to have a contest that fosters new ideas that doesn’t necessarily require great artistic skill. So here’s your chance to come up with some clever ideas for marking common events that take place during your games!

If you have the means to put your idea into action, go for it! It may help communicate your idea. But keep in mind, the execution of the idea is secondary to the actual idea itself!

My head is buzzing with ideas already, and I can’t wait to see what people come up with!

Knight Of Awsome:

Will there be any size requirements for the bases of the markers?

Other than that ill try and make something.

Xander:

There are no size requirements for anything. You are being judged on your idea.

Knight Of Awsome:

Ok cool, ill try and come up with something cool!:cheers

Ishkur Cinderhat:

Just to be clear, are these markers supposed to be sculpted models (i.e. 3D markers) or rather drawings that would be printed out on card?

Xander:

They can be anything that your mind can come up with! This is about ideas!

Hashut’s Blessing:

Thank you, M.r Xander. I tried to get across the key points without too much preamble (Psst… Have we got the medal/statuette designed yet?). There are no limits except for plausibility and what they represent. As Mr. Xander has said, the point is more about the concept rather than the making, but it is always nice to see a visual representation…

Pyro Stick:

Awesome. I might try enter this. I have a few ideas already.

Ronshank:

Can it use GW pieces?

I’m getting ideas already might enter this one. Good thing I’ve got some balsawood and a big thing of greenstuff coming my way.

Hashut’s Blessing:

It most certainly can use GW pieces. It can be made from anything if you wish to make it. The judging will be mostly concentrated on the actual concept though.

Pyro Stick:

Woooo. One marker finished, Ideas for a second and not given much thought to the animosity marker.

Hashut’s Blessing:

Glad to hear it. Is anybody else participating?

Malificant:

I’LL DO IT! ooh, oooh! me me me!

Hashut’s Blessing:

You have your job set up then, Malificant

Malificant:

i have ideas for shaker effect and wound counters, but not animosity. id like not to have to buy a box of orcs/goblins to do my original thought so im gonna have to ponder this one.

painting required?

Pyro Stick:

Can you make the actual markers for some and just drawings for others??

Hashut’s Blessing:

Mailificant: It’s not a problem. See if you can get a spare model from someone or model onto a different model to create it. Personally, I’d like them to be painted, but that’s just because it’ll make them look cooler  It doesn’t affect the voting conditions though.

Pyro: Good question. It’s perfectly fine. A description of each thing is also preferred, including details.

Malificant:

well i have all 3 done, now i just dont have acess to my camera anymore. grr…

the animosity counter is the troll skull on a stick, the earthshaker effect is cork on a base, simulated to ba an upheaval of earth with lava and everything, and the wound counters are stone pillars of various heights with one, two, or three rectangular holes glowing with lava made from pink foam.

Hashut’s Blessing:

By descriptions, I mean when you PM your entry to me, describe what they are, tell me which is which and say how they represent it/would work.
