[Archive] Sorcerers, Stone and Locomotion

Narflung:

I was reading over some posts recently, and browsing some fluff when all of a sudden I was hit by the question -

When a Sorcerer starts to turn to stone (feet first), they either get carried around by their followers, or, a la Astrogoth, build a mechanical construct.

Why haven’t we done more with this idea?

Reading about ideas of what to do with BFSP spider riders, I got the idea of a stone crippled Sorcerer skittering through the halls of the Temple of Hahut with his mechanical arachnid lower body…

So, what do you all think about alternate modes of travel for the old grizzled sorcerers…? :s

Pyro Stick:

Well since Astragoth hasnt completely turned to stone he can still operate his mechanical construct. But eventually he will turn to stone like the rest of the chaos dwarf sorcerors do. Heres what it says in their army book:

"Starting with his feet, the Chaos Dwarf sorceror slowsly begins to turn to immoblie stone. At first his legs turn grey and solid so that he is unable to move and his followers are obliged to carry him around or else he had them construct a mechanical engine to more his about. Then his lower body and torso turn to stone, making him extraordinarily tough. Once his arms become stone he is entirely dependant upon his followers to perform his magic, as all he can do is speak and watch their progress. After a while his entire body turns to stone and he becomes a statue. The statues of Chaos Dwarf sorcerers are lined up along the roadways around the Tower of Zharr Naggrund, forming rank upon rank of grey stones watching over the approach to the city"

I just realised something. Shouldnt our Sorcerors get an armour save if they are partially turned to stone?? The higher the lv the higher the save. Kind of like scaly skin, but more like statue hide or something lol.

Narflung:

True, but then at the same time their stone hides would be more vunerable to attacks by dwarf miners :o

Pyro Stick:

I doubt a miner could come within 100m of a sorceror unless the sorceror let him. They are the rulers of the chaos dwarfs after all.

(First post from my Wii! Yey! It takes forever to type on it though…)

Nazhur:

I tihnk you can do some vey nice conversion with this idea. Astragoth is a cool character and its propably more sorcerer out there with some part gong stone.

Malificant:

you have inspired me. if i ever add a sorcerer lord, he will be carried around ala shield bearer types to cast his wiked magic.

minty:

I sorta see them being carried around in palaquins, where they can be in finnery and still be able to boos some slaves around

about the REALY powerfull ones, such as astrogoth, I immagine being turned to stone won’t be a problem there magic being strong enough to keep em going, maybe it’s the fact that in everywhere other than warhammer, magic is so much more powerfull but I see them as sorta, you know, animated stone statues, ruling over the dawi zharr for eternity…

That doesnt really make much sense. If they tried to use magic to move themselves around when they had already been turned to stone then, because they are using magic, they would only get turned more into stone and become even more immobile if thats even possible. The stronger the magic they use the faster they turn to stone.

Theory_Man:

Sort of off topic,

This is what I think happens to a sorcerer that completely turns into stone.

When a sorcerer completely turns into stone, his body is crushed into ash and mixed with the molten metal, the mixture is then used to forge/mold demon artillery weapons; the sorcerers soul is binded to the metal making the metal structure have a mind/will of it’s own.

Sort of like TK Scorpions? Arent the sorcerors still alive though? I doubt the chaos dwarfs would want to discrespect their leaders by grinding them up

ashur:

Astagoth is the best special character ever created. Its a shame his background is so out of date and so few of it even back when they still exist as an army. The mini is great.

Perhaps an idea for conversion could be a sorcerer statue bring to the battlefield by some fellow sorcerers to improve their accion.

Idea for GH: a new Astragoth or a version of a half stone sorcerer.

torn:

its a fairly good conversion opportunity, i can imagine a palanquin or some kind of robotic daemon-engine type mobility, arachnid lower body sounds pretty cool, but you have to remember they still have the original stone legs attached.

something in my head is thinking ‘aliens power lifter’ type thing lol

Grimstonefire:

Lol.  They could grind them up for pavements etc

I have in mind either something like the Matrix stompas, or the Throne of Judgement.

Spider transport sounds good, but I think you would have to show the lower part of the sorcerer was stone (if his legs had been broken off), rather than some daemonic spider construct that happens to have a CD on the upper body.

Willmark:

Not sure where all the enthusiasm is coming from for spider torso and legs. Just because you have the parts doesn’t mean they are a good fit  IMHO the only way spider rider legs would work is if they were mechanical, even then a mechanical bull body would be a better fit.

Chaos mixed the ashes of chaos sorcerers with the raw molten metal in the book Manslayer to convert imperial great canons into demon-like artillery.

A idea probably stolen from the chaos dwarfs.

By the way, Chaos dwarfs do get a mention in Manslayer so yay for us!:cheers

Hammerhand:

I always thought that the stone sorcerors would make a cool last-ditch stone-thrower like war machine. Not very fluffy though, as they are supposed to be reverred, but I suppose if Zharr Nagrund was under attack, it would be plausible!

Malificant:

well, for those folk using chaos dwarf models for a dwarf army, a stoney sorcerer makes a great anvil of doom!

Kera foehunter:

i like the thown of judgement it cool !!!

Pyro Stick:

I actually prefer the matrix thing. Its more deadly looking, like something only a chaos dwarf could come up with

torn:

how about a death roller? but with more spikes. and a rune of hashut. perfect.
