A Fourth Creed - Voting Closed!

Bland, bleak, boring, corporate, Helsmith it is for me
It’s too early to give it some personal term like Gems as we don’t know yet what other bull NeoGW will pull out of their small hat

Helms, hats, masks, pass.

Derived from the classic Chaos Dwarf childhood game, duck, duck, duck, pass, where the unlucky chosen child has its hat thrown in the bin if they’re too slow around the circle.

Helms, Hats, Masks, Smiths

That’s not bad at all

Age of Sighelm, HeldenHatter. Sighats. Hatmars. Hellhats. Orcface. Roundheads. Roundhats. Edgeheads. Eraserheads. BattHead. I think Mitres also works.

While I don’t care for the slander, “Gems” is pretty descriptive for their style so far!
You are right they can still switch it up on us, but besides the two likely unannounced kits we are probably years away from more Helsmiths.

Helsmiths have hats, old hat creed also have horns on their hats frequently, and most Chorfs have tusks too.
But the gems are present on all the Helsmith’s hats so far at least!
There’s also one on the Infernal Taurus’s head, the decorative heads on the artillery & shields, even on the bull centaur’s sashes…
The only mini that doesn’t seem to have one is the Dominator Engine!

Short and sweet, I like it

My first thought. Goofy Hats..
But I know they will think they are top of the food chain and a higher being so…
Top Hats.

Out of what’s been stated either Horns or Smiths fits the progression well, and Horns particularly has my vote. Just like not every 3rd Ed has a helm, and not every Azgorh has a mask, not every Helsmith has to have horns to be identified in the group, nor does having horns force it to be in the Helsmith category.

The bullish outward forward curving horns are one of the most distinct features of these new models and prevalent. They are for the most part of a very different style from most other horns in the greater chaos dwarf universe. Even the weapons have horns.

The non standard hat types are just to uncommon and too obscure that many wouldn’t know what a shako, mitre, etc actually is without significant explanation. Not enough usage in common language.

Smiths, while short and to the point describes a very different element of these new Chaos Dwarfs while each other item, helms, hats, masks and (potentially ) horns, refers to a similar characteristic across the different creeds.

Just my 6.5 cents. Cheers!

The thing is, “masks” was always at least a little confusing and esoteric.

So, the new Creed should be at least as confusing and esoteric, if not moreso.

Technically the masks are on helms, and technically these guys are wearing hats.

That’s why the correct answer is “gems”.

I voted Deco, Zharr and Smiths.
Deco is the most obvious one, and the new design uses is the first one to push this new design to another level. Even the Great Taurus could pass as some type of gargoyle at the top of an Art Decó building, like this:

Zharr is a bit generic, but it works, and Smiths is reference to their name.

I’ll probably stick to calling them Zharrdron

Atleast what is clear with the poll is that they are indeed a new creed.

Random thought. If you were to convert metal big hats to be a (insert name of choice), what exactly would you do differently?

There was no hw & shield from official models (outside the hero), or spears, so that’s obviously a change, but it’s still just a big hat.

So put anvil horns on the big hat does that make it a (insert name)?

Or is it the hip flask of whiskey Daemon juice?

When we define what the new creed is, is it these design elements, or the entirety of the range collectively?

I voted Gems, Deco, and Horns. I personally prefer to retain the focus on aesthetic, and Gems does that the best by far. They’re everywhere, and pretty much unique to their range.

@Grimstonefire That’s a great way to look at it. If you were to try and bring another creed’s dwarfs to look in line with this one, how would you do it? I’d argue horns on hats would be pretty easy, and higher effort would be adding gems. Weapons would obviously change as well, but I don’t think that they are a good signifier of the range? Though I suppose “Spears” could have been another option!

I think Smiths is the most logical choice. The hats on the razers look like anvils and the angular look of everything else looks like it was quickly hammered out in a forge.

Any variation of hats, helms, masks, sigmitres etc are in danger of being confused with previous ranges. My first thought on hearing Deco and Gems would probably be high elves. I know they aren’t bedecked in gems but it seems more elvish styling.

I think the big hats/forge world/blood bowl ranges have better representation of horns and tusks so that could be confusing as well.

I guess it will just be something that comes about naturally and they will likely be named differently in different groups depending on if they are AoS or old world players.

I voted, but none of them convince me enough (not that I have a better idea either). What was coming to my mind is that, maybe, we’ll see it clearer when we put our hands on the range. I love the process of discovering the details and shapes on the minis while painting.
Not trying to discourage on the necessary initiative, just sharing a thought!

I don’t think we have to be worried about being confused with other ranges - we’re Chaos Dwarfs Online after all, and hardly the only race to wear any of the headgear of the Creed options! I’m glad to hear a defense of Smiths as an aesthetic description though!
