Age of Sigmar Bull Centaurs and the The Legion Of Azgorh Centaurs

Hello my kin,

Just wanted to ask if anyone’s had the chance to get the new Bull Centaurs yet?

I managed to get mine early, but to be honest, I’m not a big fan. They look like little ponies compared to my FW Bull Centaurs… I’ll probably end up selling them. I was really hoping they’d be the same size — what do you guys think?

I think the issue isn’t they are too small, but the FW ones were probably too big.

Could be, but seems for me they are little xD

Oh interesting, yeah I was expecting them to be closer to the FW ones too! (FW truly are too huge though, but still). Hmmmmm. Thanks for the “warning”.

No problem, my kin.
Just wanted to give a little warning.

I thought they’d be a similar size — maybe a bit smaller — but not that much smaller. I was so hyped yesterday to get them and build them with great weapons, but after opening the package, I was a bit disappointed.

Don’t get me wrong, the minis look incredible! But on the battlefield, next to my FW Bull Centaurs, they look like their children.

I guess I’ll wait until I can find the FW Centaurs again.

FW really moved itself - and us - in a corner with those giant beautiful Renders.

Why not use a forgeworld one as tge hero and the new ones as the centaur. That would work fine i think

Not getting mine until the 3rd or 4th of November.
I’ll be honest, the FW ones are my least favorite looking unit from the Legion of Azgorh range, and I actually much prefer the Helsmith sculpts for centaurs (though I have yet to actually hold it ofc).
The Azgorth ones are just about the only Chorf sculpt I didn’t like from FW.

Though that size difference is hilarious! They would definitely look a bit small on those square bases for TOW, especially so if you’re fighting another Chorf player :joy:

Thank you for sharing your opinion!

To be honest, I didn’t enjoy painting those guys as much as the rest of my Legion of Azgorh collection.

But the difference in height is really night and day. As Zoddtheimmortal mentioned, I’d try to use the bigger ones as the Hero choice — but it still bugs me because of the size difference (maybe that’s just me). And the Real Tauruk is much more funnier besied them :cd1991gif:

And next to an Iron Daemon, it’s honestly pretty funny. They’re barely any taller than the Infernal Guard! I haven’t done a height check next to a Knight of the Realm yet, but I imagine they’d be about the same height and build.

I wonder if partly the problem is fluff wise.

I don’t recall it being explicitly stated where bull centaurs in old world came from. I think the implication was they were an entire sub species. I.e. cowcentaurs and Bullcentaurs

But in AoS female CD give birth to Bullcentaurs. Which by necessity I guess makes them smaller?

So the unit should be called Mamma’s boys

The smaller AoS models match the TOW rules better, the FW models are huge and don’t pack the punch they look like they should.

I was not a huge fan of the FW models, they all look like they are leaning too far over. It’s the kind of thing that looks good on a single model because it is so dynamic, but looks a bit odd for a unit.

Looking through the old White Dwarf Presents and the Warhammer Quest Roleplay book we have these mentions of BCs:

At the pinnacle of the city is the Temple of Hashut, the bull-shaped god of the Chaos Dwarfs, who they call the Father of Darkness. His temple is guarded by Bull Centaurs, creatures mutated from Chaos Dwarfs long ago. They have the body of a bull but the torso of a Chaos Dwarf, with long snaggly tusks and exotically curled beards.
(White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs, p5)

Bull Centaurs are creatures with the upper torso of a Chaos Dwarf but the body of a ferocious bull. May centuries ago, when Chaos Dwarfs were first twisted by the powers of Chaos, some of their race were transformed into Bull Centaurs.
These powerful creatures guard the great status of Hashut in the Temple atop of the Tower of Zharr-Naggrund.
(White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs, p40)

Bull Centaurs are creatures with the upper torso of a Chaos Dwarf but the body of a ferocious bull. Many centuries ago, when the Chaos Dwarfs were first twisted by Chaos, some of their race were transformed into Bull Centaurs. Since those days the Bull Centaurs have guarded the great statue of Hashut in the temple high atop the Tower of Zharr-Naggrund. They are as keen witted and intelligent as Chaos Dwarfs and completely devoted to the worship of Hashut the Father of Darkness.

The Chaos Dwarf Sorcerers trust them completely, and often entrust them with complex or dangerous tasks. Although they are few in number they are more powerful than Chaos Dwarfs and much swifter in battle. Even through there are mighty individuals amongst them, there are no sorcerers in their number.
(White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs, p50)

Bull Centaurs are arrogant and cruel creatures, utterly dedicated to the Masters of Zharr-Naggrund and their horrifying deity Hashut the Father of Darkness. Bull Centaurs wear light armour and carry shields. They are armed with brutal double-handed axes
with heavy cleaving blades.
(White Dwarf Presents: Chaos Dwarfs, p60)

Bull Centaurs are Creatures of Chaos : beings with the upper torso of a Chaos Dwarf and the body of a ferocious bull. They are keen-witted creatures and powerful fighters.
(Warhammer Quest Roleplay Book, p99)

Warped and malign creatures, Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaurs are, as their name suggests, twisted amalgams of Chaos Dwarf and ferocious bull in aspect, the unnatural fusion creating hulking, monstrous beasts far larger than either and filled with cannibalistic appetites. Many centuries ago, during the Time of Chaos, a fraction of those that survived the onslaught became horrifically mutated, their stubborn Dwarf resistance to the warping taint was overwhelmed utterly by the awful energies to which they were subjected, and so the first Bull Centaurs were born. They came to serve their wider kin as shock troops and temple guardians, and to them was entrusted the protection of the sacred fanes of Hashut, as they more than any other had been twisted to the closest semblance of the father of darkness’s image. Into each successive generation of Chaos Dwarfs a handful of new blessed kin has been born - usually to the death of their unfortunate dams, and such children are given over immediately to the Sorcerers to serve in turn. This number however has not proven enough, and Hahsut’s inventive priesthood have wielded their dark arts to make more, tampering with their offspring using horrific magics, and even fusing them into frameworks of metal and demon tainted flesh to swell the ranks of their temple guardians.
(Tamurkhan, p174)

So in the Tamurkhan book the BCs in the Legion of Azgorh are born already mutated, but then the priests also create their own… which I don’t think any of us have ever followed up on to any great extent on here! It certainly presents some unique opportunities for steam punk style variants and conversions!

I like to think there are a few female cow centaurs that keep the population going. Less of a leap in science and magic.

Do the new centaurs fit on cav bases? I love that they are shrinking in size again.

In another decade or so my boar centaurs will be useable again!

That’s true I’ve never seen anyone attempt a steampunk enhanced Bullcentaur.

They do fit. They are myb as the same size as The Knights of The Realm.

But as the model they are somehow smaller on the base, gives you more freedom to do the basing.
