I present, timestamped for your delectation, GW’s most persistent “investigative” “journalist” (two words he would not claim, nor be able to spell) Valrak, who gives a second, expanded telling of the rumour for the allegedly imminent Chaos Dwarf launch box.
15 models
one is a large part mechanical, part stone golem with guns and melee weapons
one is a unit of troops (presumably ten-strong)
there is also an artillery piece
Based on what you get in AOS faction launch boxes, such as the Gitmob box, it seems likely to me that there would be a foot character. But it’s not mentioned. An artillery piece could theoretically be four models total, if it’s one gun and three crew, but AOS doesn’t often do machines with separately based crew - and GW box model counts tend to count bases as miniatures.
Since Khorne just got a hero I think we should be able to see our boys once we get past KO, ghosts and flesheaters, at the current rate maybe in a month or two.
Could be as late as wintertime. If we factor in that summer is a Heresy edition release, we could see the announcement after August time but the release a while later.
Valrak is almost always correct. He is pretty blunt that he has actual sources inside GW. He called the entire Heresy 3.0 box months and months ago. The faux leaks site was basically a response to his existence.
We all knew it would come to this. We all need the new releases, yet we fear the grey. I wonder if we should just surrender and embrace it.
On a serious note, I was discussing taking a shot at BATG 2026 edition with my wife last night. I might have the spousal support the paint, and then…this news comes along. I have a feeling we’re all about to have “the talk” real soon.
“Big type of metal dreadnought, it’s arms are like cannon guns”
“There’s supposed to be an artillery piece, a mortar if I’m not mistaken”
“Infantry with spears”
“A HQ choice”
the details here are net-new.
the dreadnought is sounding more dieselpunk and less stone golem
the artillery being a mortar is very classic, very thematic - will limit TOW utility
infantry being melee infantry is coherent, but having spears is surprisingly an issue for TOW
we always predicted an HQ choice because that’s how all launch boxes are formatted, but this is the first time a source has actually confirmed it
I remember way back before the Cities of Sigmar reveal Valrak mentioned Dawnbringer Crusades would be a big story push and after that Chaos strike back and use Chaos Dwarfs and their weaponry to start to take down all these Cities and Fortresses that appeared.
It’s on track, box contents here also looks to be spot on for not just a great themed Chaos Dwarf box but also for the siege like story push mentioned
The Oathbreakers rumour contained something similar - Chaos Dwarfs would be breaching the walls of Sigmar’s personal stronghold or somesuch. It makes sense, albeit many of these tropes seem to have been shown by the Skaven in the 4e launch story.
Oh imagine if that’s part of the overall plan…send in the Skaven first to breach the walls and suffer the casualties then come in with the real artillery and army after that.
Thanks for posting this, I had only heard a hint about it being part of the AoS 4 box. Exciting times!
If indeed they are a new faction I think it’s fair to speculate they will get at least 4 units, at least two war machines. Probably at least 4 character/leader models.
I think you’re about right - the best range launch comparator is Cities of Sigmar. They got two infantry options, an artillery piece, a midsize monster (the ogre fella), and two two-option HQs, plus a smattering of other bits and some Underworlds options.
It’s fascinating that there is the mention of Gazul. There is the potential that Gazul became hashut, and that (given it’s AOS) Hashut actually exists in the metaphysical sense as an entity.
I.e. the chaos gods and sigmar could actually fight on a battlefield (I think) in AoS. So Hashut could as well.
Hashut had always been a chaos god too hadn’t he? Not one of the big boys obviously but if memory serves he, much like Malal, we’re always looking to become high Chaos gods.
So to bring Hashut in here as part of the Dwarven pantheon and sounds more like a fallen god or one at least displeased with his given role is a massive change.
It reminds of Zeus and Hades.
Also to add most factions in AoS have faction terrain and manifestations so there may well be a few more reveals before the book is out
