Introduction
Dear fellow Wearers of Big Hats and Battlers against the Grey,
I am very conscious of my lateness to the BATG party. I did in fact not have any plans for painting any substantial amount of miniatures at the start of the year. Yet the arrival of KoW’s 4th edition proved sufficient motivation to launch a new hobby project, or rather to relaunch a rather old one, and I decided to finally (re-)paint my Warriors of Chaos for eventual use in that system - most of them having been only primed or, at best, indifferently painted by Yours Truly many years ago, in any case being unfit for the gaming table and therefore, for all practical purposes, grey.
So it happened that 2026 became the year in which I finally started working away on my pile, and I thought that keeping track of it in a proper BATG thread would be a great help to keep me motivated.
Be it known that, at the time of starting this thread, I have in the year 2026 not hitherto acquired any new miniatures.
Thank you very much for taking a look!

We commence this BATG with 23 Chaos Warriors from my favourite plastic kit!
Please do not question the assembly choices too critically; most of them have been made by my early teenage self, with only slight redaction by my more recent self where absolutely necessary. As these chaps are mostly going to be used in KoW, varying equipment will be no problem.
I used this opportunity to try speedpaint markers for the first time, and am very happy with the result in relation to the effort invested. I’m going to experiment some more with them in the course of this BATG.
A bag of those black-and-white stones on the bases was gifted to me by a friendly hobby shop employee back when I got my first miniatures (among them some of the very warriors pictured above) over twenty years ago. I thought it only proper to take this opportunity to finally use them.

Oh boy those chaos warriors sure bring back memories. Literally the first minis I ever painted!

A cool revitalization project! Nice to see, and a good start to BATG! I enjoy trying to give my old kid unfinished business new life while retaining some fun quirks of assembly.
Welcome to the battle!
The stones and bright tufts suit the models well.

@leck7S Yes, that was an excellent kit. Complete modularity, lots of bits, exactly what every plastic kit should be. They’re great sculpts from a practical point of view as well; lots of details for good painters to obsess over, but they also look quite decent with little more than a metallic drybrush. The only issue I do have with them is that they’re a pain to rank up.
@Reaver Thank you very much for the kind words.

So vibrant, looking forward to seeing a big army of these together. How many more units do you have planned?

Thank you very much!
By my count, it’ll be five more units plus a few characters. They’ll make a playable KoW army when I craft them some generously spaced magnetic unit bases (e. g. the 23 Warriors I posted above will probably be based as three or even four regiments); but I’m going to leave that until after I’m done with the models themselves. Got to make use of that painting flow while I’m in it.
I’m definitely going to post an army picture once they’re done. Next unit is on its way.
