[AOS] Helsmiths of Hashut - Rumours

It seems that there are some “leaks” around Reddit:

This are not the real Warscrolls, but some people say that the rules, profiles and stats are correct. Time will tell.

So, my thoughts:
Razers: 1 wounds with 4+ save 5-man unit will day in a breeze, more so if they have 12" range (at least they have Shoot in Combat). Rend 3 is good enough, but not sure how fast can you stack Daemon Power.

Daemonsmith: Boring warscroll that can be so strong paired with Dominator Engine with 2+ saves (source: Eddie). With 6"-24" range, they can even heal from the backline.

War Despot: It’s all about giving +1 Atk to Crit(Mortal). If this can be paired with some type of Attack-First potion, artefact or whatever, this dude can be surprisingly good vs some armies.

Dominator Engine: 10 wounds on a 2+ saves with 6" movement seems strong without knowing their points. Double-tap vs Heroes two, with a damage 4 weapon (on the charge), I expect most heroes to be affraid of this dude.

Tormentor Bombard: This unit doesn’t feel right. A 30 range unit that hits on 3+ with a selfbuff to add +1 to hit is not fun for anyone. Ruinous bombardment is boring but I understand that is necessary for an army that only a few units have more than 1 rend. I need to see points before making a strong argument about this unit.

Imho, they are a bit boring, but I need to see the entire picture to make a strong argument.

I see they’ve taken some info from the peak we’ve had at the speardhead rules, and from the 4chan rumor(which seems to be built on the little rules info we got from the reveal stream). Some of this should be more or less correct.

The Flamehurler Razers seem really strange to use. I was reeeealy hoping they would take a page out of Fyreslayers’ book and just give Dwarfs 2w each to differentiate them in the rulesset. They now die to enemy shooting, and die in melee, but they are exactly what you want to have on a point that a heavily armored enemy is trying to contest… I am assume they’re supposed to help our Cohorts or Vandalz contest objectives by debuffing the enemy’s control score* - in small units of 5. The rend through Daemonic Power I view as being a tactical option and not really a strategy (unless you wanna play with a double enforced squad of 15 because your meta is all heavy armor or something).

The Despot is a very standard 4th Ed foot hero. Since they are the leaders I was hoping they’d be a bit more exciting, but I guess they are a force multiplier to Cohorts at least. I just dislike the double fight abilities on 6 wound footslogger heroes. AoS needs to take a page out of 40k’s book and make them super cheap IMO. People take these in 40k.

I think @Beliman you’re spot on with the Deamonsmith. I wanna heal my 2+ save Dominator Engines from as far away as possible.

Overall I really wonder if the Daemonic Power rule is like what has been rumored.

This is the rumor I've seen.

People make up fake rumors on 4chan almost every week, which is why I am doubting this.
Assuming this is how it works you will likely always start with some Daemonic power from the terrain on your side of the board, but if you deploy to get as much of it as possible you’ll probably struggle with scoring.

No terrain or manifestations after all! But it looks like we’re getting two armies of Renown to fill out all the warscrolls!

ArmieS, plural. That adds up with what people speculated with the remaining warscrolls!
So four Battle Formations and two Armies of Renown, that’s a lot of potential playstyle variety!

Also a transfer sheet if you wanna use the iconography they’ve shown off so far without sweating bullets trying to freehand paint it, heh.
Hope there is some cool stuff on there. Would love it if they have a page explaining some of the new icons or the cuneiform in the new battletome.

Been really wanting to put some paint on these for a while now, great news it’s getting closer and closer.

Very interesting decal sheet, there is a lot more on there than I was expecting, very Imperial fist too that one house/alliance/chapter/thing

It’s still fluff I’m most looking forward to catching up on, seeing what the differences are and theming the army set around that.

Interesting update with the lack of terrain/manifestations though tbh to have so much coming out at the start that takes from the 90s range (unit wise I mean) is a far better pay off.

I’d like to hope this was going to be the case but I think it’s wishful thinking… the collective rules refer to ‘armies’ (plural) in reference to all of the armies. Each faction is part-and-parcel of the ‘Armies of Renown’, as per this 2023 article: What Are Armies of Renown? The Warhammer Studio Explains - Warhammer Community

@Nicodemus
Ah, that is my bad with the wording in that case.
But I still think we’re getting two Armies of Renown, because of people counting the Warscroll & Enchantment cards at bare minimum needed for what we got so far.
They all reach the conclusion that we’re at 30/32, with the remaining two cards either fitting terrain & manifistations OR two armies of renown.
Now I can’t confirm this last part, but apparently two Armies of Renown have been pretty normal lately. The newest AoS Battle Tome I’ve got was the SBGL one, which also got two.

Update the first post with new rumour (leaked?) warscrolls.
And more leaks from The Honest Wargamer:

  • There’s a Battle Formation that grants +2" move to units with 3 DPP
  • Spear cohorts have an ability to generate additional desolation points on a 3+.
  • A “special character” (very mysterious Rob, we know there’s only one in the book) has some ability to move DPP around
  • Cohorts are 1w 3+save, basically mortek guard
  • Bull Centaurs seem to have mortals on sixes to hit?
  • It is correct that the Hobgrots have a deployment phase free move

Rob the Honest Wargamer just confirmed there are TWO Armies of Renown! However, neither one of the uses Daemonic Power Points, which means ALL the units are weaker by default in those lists. A very weird choice by the designers..

@Beliman He just finished going through all the warscrolls on stream! A lot of good units, and there’s really only one unit I think seems useless (which is the Cohorts with swords, I am so sad…). Bull Centaurs seem completely busted.

Some rules chat may not wat to hear about, no details from me though but I thought I’d hide it anyway just incase

Summary

I’m quite grateful I’m not a big gaming/rules guy.

It doesn’t t seem at first glance they fit the lore very well which is my only real sticking point for rules.

When you play 40k orks I like it to feel a bit crazy, likewise gobbos in Warhammer fantasy. Favourite rules ever are still the old fanatic rule where you you could just as easily swing back into your unit as hit the enemy was fantastic and also the old Earthshaker rule that would slow an entire area regardless of what was there when it hit.

I didn’t really see much in that makes me feel like I’m playing Chaos Dwarfs, they’ve leant into the desolation side of things but doesn’t seem to buff much :man_shrugging:t2:

Like I said though I’m not a rules guy or a gamer so I wouldn’t put much into what I say on that front.

I wouldn’t mind rules that just felt like it’s a slow grind up the field with some tough AF Dwarfs surrounded by explosions that hitting the enemy and maybe also blowing up in my face depending on how the dice go

Bulltaurs and Blunderbusses seems to have problematic profiles.
Both are going to be insanely efficient with DPPs and it’s something that cam be abused in tournament environment.

Urak Tarr seems to be autoinclude in all lists, and Deathshrieker can kill a frigate in just one barrage with a bit of luck… scary.

I instantly thought of my KO army when I read that too, hahah.

A general thing Rob was commenting on a lot was that all the units will be undercosted if their points are priced on them without DPP, but they would all be too expensive if they’re costed based on them having 3 DPP.
It also would make no sense for the units to be costed with DPP in mind if neither of the AoR’s can use DPP…

Personally I never use named characters, so I will pretend Urak Tarr doesn’t exist. In general I’m quite happy with the units we got, with the sole exception of Cohorts with swords. I really liked how they look, but even if I’m not very competitive I can’t really excuse running those over spears.
Also, I was not one of the people hoping we’d get a train; But my KO experience really wants a delivery mechanic for those Flamehurlers. If I could drive those up to spray something I’d be very happy.
The lore hints at Lamassus existing, I’m definitely hoping we get some more stuff eventually. Even with our very solid and varied roster.

It is not that important but I miss the shooting weapon for the War Despot. The model has an obvious demon fire whatsoever pistol at his back.

@GhraskDragh @Anima
I strongly feel that both of your complaints here are symptoms of how GW is writing rules in both 40k and AoS 4th ed right now.
It sucks. In both rulessets it’s like they have put effort into removing as much flavour and fluff as possible.

People are praising AoS 4th ed’s base ruleset of being the best we’ve had so far, but all the armies have been drained of fluffy rules and unique combat profiles.
The despot has what AoS players have dubbed “the holy profile”, which is a standard copy-pasted profile on combat lords. And that profile does not have a ranged attack. And the sad truth is that’s why he can’t seem to shoot his gun for some reason.

/rant

The timeline between new editions of Battle tomes in AoS is 2 years? 3 years?

I’d be willing to bet money we won’t be getting any new units between editions. Characters on foot maybe.
