Kera foehunter:

kick ass !! what a nice group of cd blunder busses

TLTG:

No new pictures today, as my camera croaked last night. I managed to finish painting the blunderbussers around 2:30 AM, and didn’t have the energy afterwards to mess with it, so I’ll have to figure it out over the weekend. That said, I think they came out really well with some paint on them. It’s funny how big a difference the baal red wash and blood red highlights I’ve been doing can make. They went from disturbingly mediocre to looking pretty awesome in a night, which again warms my icy heart. Tonight I’m going to make some serious headway on my core troops, and begin shaving and assembling the remaining dwarf warriors: 34 of them. Once they’re done, and I finish the other unit of Blunderbuss crew, I’ll be done with dwarf core.

I’m hoping I don’t fall behind on my painting schedule, as I just got drafted to run a Fantasy tournament. I work part time for a friend of mine who owns a shop in the Hadley, MA area, and he apparently is going to someone’s birthday or some such at the casino an hour and a half south of here. With any luck things will run smoothly enough I can begin doing some work while I’m there…

TLTG:

Camera’s fixed!

The red highlights don’t show up in my camera’s flash (I have no idea how to operate this thing!) so unfortunately the pictures aren’t as flattering as I’d prefer. Still, I’m pleased with the results as I’m still ever so slightly ahead of schedule. I also got my final order of stuff in to get the tournament list complete, as my boxes of Flagellants (along with some donated flagellant bodies) finally have arrived. The hobgoblin bowmen, if they stay in my list, will be based off the bodies of Bretonnian peasant archers in all likelihood. I have a surplus as I built the ridiculously silly 2000 point peasant army for ha has last year, and frankly they would be better off with big noses and pointy teef.

Willmark:

Have you dipped some of these units?

TLTG:

I’ve washed them. No dipping though. They do kind of look like dips with the camera settings the way they are. I managed to figure them out a bit though, and here’s something I was just working on. It is probably the most adorable thing I’ve ever painted.

tjub:

Hah, redit ball frihand på fanan!

furrie:

I like the bald heads and the banner looks realy good.

Kera foehunter:

wow i love the banner !! great job tltg

tjub:

Hah, redit ball frihand på fanan! :)

tjub
Doh, I must have been really tired this morning when I posted... :P
Really like the banner! Will you have the same theme on the whole army?

TLTG:

Well that banner carrying gentleman is only the BSB. I wanted at least one obvious throwback to the silly cartoony dwarfs, and he seemed like a great opportunity. The regular banners I haven’t decided what to do with yet, but they’re probably going to be very basic so the BSB is as obvious as possible. I might just settle for some runes over red and black.

TLTG:

No new pictures today, but a status update: I have finished converting ten naked hobgoblins using skull pass night goblin heads and flagellant bodies. It took some serious shaving down to make it look right, but I really like how they came out. Green stuffing their hoods was a snap and I finished the whole unit in a couple minutes. I also finished trimming down and joining the bull centaur bodies to their dwarf torsos. I haven’t yet sculpted their armor or beards, or joined their bases and weapon heads, but I plan on getting it done tonight and painting that unit tomorrow. I used Riders of Rohan horses with Battle for Skull Pass miners to do it.

Over the course of this week I need to finish converting the rest of my warriors and blunderbusses, but I’m not looking forward to all that repitition… :frowning:

Kera foehunter:

OOOHHHHHH naked hobgoblins !! can’t wait to see the bull eather ??

TLTG:

Finally got some more pictures taken. I’m dangerously close to falling behind on the finished product, as I still need to polish off 32 warriors, 21 blunderbussers, the earthshaker, and any number of Hobs I’m going to run. Oh, and the guard on the face of the four bolt throwers. A man’s work is never done!

Anyway, here’s a picture of some bulls.

I botched the beards a bit, and probably could have done a much better job. However, I thought they were coming out REALLY bad while I was working them, and seeing them all together makes them look considerably better. So all things considered, I’m pleased.

Naked Hobs:

Flagellant bodies, night goblin heads. Nothing fancy. A little green stuff on the back of all of their necks because the head is a little bigger than the neck on the Flagellant body, and I needed to smooth it out. If I bothered running armored ones, I would use some other body as a base. Possibly Dark Elf torsos. I plan on doing some with Bretonnian Archers as a base, for my arrow hobs, but that’s on my plate for next week.

Here’s a nice little shot I took with everything I’ve done so far. It’s reassuring, even in the face of my obnoxious schedule, that I’ve come this far.

Observant folk may notice the primed guy in the foreground hasn’t appeared in a picture before. I did him up during Heroes tonight on a whim, since I finally found that cannonball guy that everybody makes a wizard of. In this case, he’s holding a fireball, and he’s going to be my fire wizard. In all likelihood he’ll also wind up being my sorcerer lord most of the time.

Tomorrow, painting! I hope to have the unit of bull centaurs table ready by bedtime.

Swissdictator:

TLTG: I love the banner in the style of the old artwork. It’s gorgeous!

It’s nice seeing your army coming together.

I’m still contemplating that Hobbo method too.

Kera foehunter:

i like the buff out hobgoblins and i like the bulls to

Ubertechie:

All looking fantastic - I like the consistent colour scheme and the bull centaur conversions look great.

TLTG:

Today I started doing some math, and realized that I want far too much stuff for this tournament in April! I don’t know how I miscounted (curse you Microsoft Excel!) but I’m actually slightly behind schedule on about 3000 points, rather than the 2250 I need.

So, in that sense, I’m actually way ahead.

Not sure how I’ll proceed though. Last tournament was mixed demons for first, nurgle demons for second, and then a pair of high elves. Nothing had more than two players behind it though, so the area’s not really full of or lacking any of the armies. Well, it’s severely lacking in Chaos Dwarfs of course!

Here’s along the lines I’m thinking:

L4 Sorcerer Lord with Dispell Scroll, Power Stone

L2 Sorcerer Hero with Power Stone

L2 Sorcerer Hero with Power Stone

Chaos Dwarf Hero BSB with Armor of Gazrakh

24 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Full Command

21 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Blunderbusses

21 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Blunderbusses

10 Hobgoblins

10 Hobgoblins

10 Hobgoblins

10 Hobgoblins, Bows

10 Hobgoblins, Bows

10 Hobgoblins, Wolves, Musician

2 Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers

2 Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers

1 Death Rocket

15 Black Orcs, Full Command

1 Earthshaker

7 Bull Centaur, Heavy Armor

That’s actually OVER still. D’oh! At least it makes my painting easier. I may break the blunderbussers down to three smaller units if it’s looking like I need a bit more mobility. I really like 21 though, because it lets me get a fire zone seven wide and gives me a couple casualties before I lose S5. And of course I’m a little bit OCD and need to have my units rank up exactly right when I set up my army…

TLTG:

Breakthrough!  I’ve reached a new plan for finishing the army on time.  Here’s the list I’m working to complete, with those already completed struck through:

Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer Lord, Level 4, Dispell Scroll

Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer Hero, Level 2, Power Stone

Chaos Dwarf Sorcerer Hero, Level 2, Power Stone

Chaos Dwarf Hero, Battle Standard Bearer, Armor of Gazrakh

18 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Blunderbuss

18 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Blunderbuss

12 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Full Command

12 Chaos Dwarf Warriors, Full Command

10 Hobgoblins

10 Hobgoblins

16 Hobgoblins, Bow

10 Hobgoblins, Bow, Wolf, Musician

2 Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers

2 Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers

1 Death Rocket

12 Black Orcs, Full Command

6 Bull Centaur, Heavy Armor, Standard

1 Earthshaker

-----

2250 exactly

So as you can see we’re not far off. If I strike out the ones I’ve already converted, the list of stuff remaining is really short! So I’m pretty psyched. Now I need advice.

Having a coherent army color scheme is very important to me. However, I don’t want the hobgoblins to match the chaos dwarfs, since they’re obviously just slaves being sent out to die. Therefore, I need some assistance from someone with a little more eye for colors than me - What would look good with what I’ve got, be clearly from the same army, but not blend in perfectly with the dwarfs? I’ve been considering doing the robes with devlan mud over white primer and picking out details and jewelry with red and bronze respectively, but I can’t even picture if that would work.

Also, before I get too soft in how I approach the last parts of making the army tournament ready, any criticism on the list? I’m considering cutting something to fit armor/shield on the Wolf unit, or a champion in the bull centaur unit.

New pictures will go up tomorrow when I’ve had some more time to work on the bull centaurs, by the way.

Zanko:

Amazing army! :hat off

Good conversions, especially the Bull(?)centaurs and the Standardbearer!

Please can you post keener pics of them (the Bullcentaurs) and perhaps also pics from the side??? Are they made from horse bodies? I cannot see it really good …

wallacer:

That’s a really nice piece of painting on that banner. :hat off
