Admiral:
Decent paintjob on that druid. This looks like fun. Good luck!
Fuggit Khan:
Nice paint job…and this is the first time that I have ever noticed that the upper rounded part of the Druids staff has three small scythes. Really cool :hat off
Abecedar:
Me too. Lovely little details like that always slip past me.
Willmark:
In and among the other stuff I’m painting I’m inching closer to finishing four more minis for the Dungeon of Doom expansion minis for Talisman. Since the last update I not have the City of Adventure expansion via a Christmas present. So only Dragon’s Tower left to go!
As noted above these minis we’re partially painted as I got the set used. So in a way I have to go over a lot of them. I didn’t photograph the 6th mini, the fire wizard as he might have to be very carefully stripped of paint.
While I’m painting them to a fairly high level I’m not going too crazy; they will be handled continuously when playing games of Talisman so it makes no sense to go overboard with the paint jobs.
Anyways here is where they stand now (with the chaos warrior being the closest to being finished):

Abecedar:
Looking pretty good

Willmark:
Yeah, maybe 40% complete for them with the chaos warrior nearly done.

Update
So Christmas finally arrived and since then we have got a whopping 3 games of Talisman in! So far Mrs Willmark loves the game despite the fact that she was against said “nerd game”. Being the smart husband that I am I let it go an enjoy the fact that the family is enjoying playing the game.
Here we are during the last game which I played the Beastman and won. I had the unfortunate experience of draw in this game the following: The Imp, Gremlins, Cursed by the Hag… fortunately the wife was saddled with the Poltergeist.
My daughter Mia played the Ranger, my son Tristan the Swashbuckler (more on that in a minute) and Mrs Willmark the Wood Elf.

Tristan didn’t win although he did to the Dragon’s Tower and used a Finger of Death spell… Only problem was I had the Preservation spell. Needless to say he wasn’t too happy.
One interesting thing was he amassed a army of followers which if you’ve ever played 3rd Edition Talisman know they can wander off or die fairly easily. He had quite the carry capacity too with the Squire, Horse and Cart and the Bag of Carrying.

Oh, and a few more minis painted with 6 more about 75% finished but not photographed.

Fuggit Khan:
What a great little update, it really is good to see families that sit down and enjoy time together playing games. All I have manged so far is to get my family to sit down to play blackjack and poker. Board games will be the next step

A smart husband will always let his wife’s comment go :hat off
Bassman:
Love these old miniatures. A while ago I had a chance to paint them for a commission job, they are amazing despite begin very old. Full of character!
cornixt:
Is the Swashbuckler one of the White Dwarf characters? I remember having four that I cut out of the magazine and they didn’t have proper hand-drawn pictures on the game sheet, just pics of the models instead.
Willmark:
No. Swashbuckler comes with the game. The White Dwarf ones were the Ogre, Dragon Rider, Swordsmen, Dark Elf, and a few others.
After I finish the main characters I’m going to add those. A longer term goal is to add characters of my own devising using 1st Edition WFRP as a guide! Rat Catcher with a small, but vicious dog who adds +1 to combat rolls as a start.
cornixt:
That sounds great, all looking good so far!
Malorndk:
I never played the game but it looks like a more technical iteration of something like HeroQuest which was huge in scandinavia. I always loved HeroQuest but it did lack some depth after a while. Being kids, we used our imagination made our own items, heroes and adventures. Jolly times!
Malorndk:
Oh and model wise I think the bear druid is such a charming fella <3

There is a lot more variety, but because it is so random it isn't strategic or more technical than Hero Quest. 90% of the game is "roll the dice and you land on a square where you draw one card, then resolve the card", there isn't much in the way of choices.

If you want to give it a go you can find it in the App Store, along with a Horus Heresy version.
Malorndk:
Ah thanks for the feed back guys.

Update
Over the holidays the family and I got a ton of Talisman games in.
Here are four my minis I completed (with a few minor touchups to go).
I also 6 more nearing completion.
Dragonslayer

Fire Wizard

A big hat chaos dwarf by Willmark???

While a zoom function is good on the camera it sometimes shows too much macro detail and not enough of the overall mini. Zoomed way in its hard to get a sense of the overall effect and just magnifies the mistakes. Looks like I’ll have to find a happy medium.
Willmark:
I’ve painted a few more minis and I’ll get the pictures up shortly. But in the meantime:
The family and I got in another game of Talisman tonight (skipped watching the Super Bowl). My daughter crushed it as the Swashbuckler and rampaged through the game beating the Dragon King easily.
This time around however we downloaded a bunch of the fan made character cards and the extra ones from White Dwarf from the web. It worked out as we had 40 characters and I created a chart to allow for random draws using a d4 and d10. Through random rolls we actually pulled three of the extra characters with my son playing one of them: the Ogre.
Along those lines my next goal will be to create my own characters. I say my own, but what I’m doing is using the 1st Edition WFRP book and its careers as a guide. I doubt I’m going to create one for every single career in the book, so I started on the Basic careers and some of the more well known ones. The Advanced careers will offer some cool ones but wanted to start small.
I have not play tested them; I simply wrote them up about 1/2 hour ago. If you know the game (3rd edition Talisman) let me know your feedback. I’ve tried to shy away from making them too powerful and may have gone for them being too under-powered…
