Just a small update, I made another 5 hobs, starting to look like a decent unit, i used 2 different scheme of greens to make them look a bit different while the clothes are those. I’m trying to figure out what colour i could use for make few different hats, might be bit boring with all those red ones in the end.
Little info, you cant see it very well in those pics, but the hob on the extreme right on the 2nd rank isnt properly standing straight.
He looks like he trying not to fall on his big feet, looking for a way to stand still, being sure noone will notice his condition.
Because I’ll go on holyday this Saturday for almost 2 weeks, I decided to leave here something small that turned out much worse then expected because I f***ing suck at take pictures. After i saw people really enjoying my hobbos archers and the blood bowl team, i decided to take pics by pics on the main parts of one of my archers to kinda show how I make them (totally useless because half pics are extremely sucky in my opinion [it’s a fact, not an opinion]) so here they are, with a brief explanation after every one of them:
After the black spray i put the basic colors: Rhinox hide, Khorne red, the old boltgun metal and the darkangels green.
I made a brown wash on the armor then drybrushed twice with chainmail and mithril silver The sand is drybrushed from a dark brown till bleached bone Rocks with codexgray then white+gray drybrush
For the clothes I used the same oak brown I put first on the base, then a layer of leather brown and for the main lighter part I used 50/50 of leather brown and bleached bone
Moving on the highlights on the clothes I used first pure bleached bone then 50/50 with skull white for the smaller parts giving it a natural look, clean as style but old, used and ruined in the meanwhile
The hat, bow and “kilt” are simple red gore then blood red for the skin I give myself a choice: I can use just the pure greens, mix them with a rotten green for a natural color or yellow for a brighter one, after all even everyone of us has a different color skin. For this model I used a 50/50 of dark angels green + greenskin for the base, 50/50 of greenskin + necrotic flesh for the 1st layer and the main highlights 50/50 goblin green and necrotic flesh.
This is the final result after painting the boring details. Nails are just pure necrotic green, sleeves are black+codex gray, same for hairs. The quiver is made with bestial brown and the feathers on the arrows are codex gray + 2 drybrush of white. Finally the theeth are leather brown, then bleached bone, then again bleached bone + white.
I’m really sorry for the quality of many pics, I wanted to do something nice but turned out worse then expected, but I still give it a try. Cheers!
I'm really liking the unbleached robe look. Well done.
And OK, I'll bite. Why is he "Drunken Jim"
Abecedar
I'm quoting myself from the comment on the top of the page with a big smile: "Little info, you cant see it very well in those pics, but the hob on the extreme right on the 2nd rank isnt properly standing straight. He looks like he trying not to fall on his big feet, looking for a way to stand still, being sure noone will notice his condition. I renamed him Drunken Jim."
So this was my fluff that came by itself while putting the troop together
Very nice Hobgobs! I also like the fact you took time out to do a “how to” as I always find it interesting to see how different people approach painting.
Unfortunately I came late to the party when it comes to purchasing CD stuff and will probably have to go down the lines of scratch-building/ kit-bashing to get a decent Hobgob unit. I can’t believe how much some of these minis cost now!
Neat work! The only thing to improve upon would be bowstrings and drilled out horn. Otherwise a great impression with all the colours and basing. :hat off
