Looking at your list I asked myself, why a BC Hero? There is no unit of BCs or Wolfriders for him to fight with. A Chaos Dwarf hero would be a better choice with the same kit. He has a better leadership and WS that the BC, and only gives up in the movement and Attacks.
Personally, I would not use a death rocket at this points level. Its scatter doesn’t do it any favours. I would take 2 bolt throwers in its stead. With the savings in points you can actually get a level one sorcerer, which will increase your dispel pool (if you face any Vampire Counts armies, you’ll understand why this is a good thing).
The earthshaker is a good choice - despite its scatter effect, the ability of the earth shaker to stop enemy shooting, and marching is a wonderful thing.
Lots of dwarfs there, but where are your slaves? Did they escape or something?
I would remove one warriors unit, increase the blunderbusses to 18 and use the remaining points for some slaves. 20 hobgoblins costs only 40 points in their basic form, a real bargain. They will even have a rather nice leadership if kept close to the general.
Try to ad a scroll and a powerstone to the sorceror if possible too.
Hi tommy - this is not a bad go at a first army list however it is a bit to classic dwarf and does not really take advantage of the things we have access to that normal dwarfs do not, these are :-
Hobgoblins - 40 points for a fully ranked unit or 50 points for 10 of them with bows - both are hugely useful (I prefer the warriors to the bows at 1000 points - don’t bother to give them any equipment as this just makes them on the whole less useful. I would aim for 2 block of 20 warriors for 80 points in total
Bull Centaurs - these are pretty hard hitting cavalry (2 strength 6 attacks each) - but they don’t have great armour saves. They add speed and the ability to generate a lot of kills in combat to the list. I would take 6 of them with shields for 121 points. I know people recommend the Earth Shaker but i prefer Bull Centaurs at this level. (This choice dictates your play style either defensive with EarthShaker or offensive with Bull Centaurs)
Blunderbusses - I always take them in a unit of 15 with a standard - this gives you strength 5 shooting plus a unit that can take fast cav and light infantry on head to head and win - this unit will cost you 190 points (you can save 12 points by sticking a wizard in the front rank and losing a model.
I would suggest a list something like
CD Hero with Armour of Ghaz and Great Weapon = 94 points - Goes in warrior unit to generate kills and provide leadership 10
23 Warriors with Warbanner and musician = 261 points - solid centre for your battle-line with combat res of 3 ranks, standard, warbanner and probably outnumber will take a lot to beat in combat - dont bother with great weapons as they are usually a waste of points on large units
Level 2 sorcerer with stone and scroll = 150 Points - Goes in blunderbuss unit
14 blunderbusses with standard = 178 points - a good solid missile unit that will eat t3 troops for breakfast plus no slouches in combat either
6 Bull Centaurs with shields - 121 - Fast hard hitting flankers - keep them out of the way of shooting
4 * bolt throwers = 120 points - these can deal with monsters and cavalry as priority targets then either loan charachter sniping or targeting ranked infantry units - don’t mess around withthem use them almost as a unit for best results
2 * 20 hobgoblins - just search the forums for different uses for these - you may find you prefer 1 * 20 and 2 * 10 or even 4 * 10 again your play style will dictate this - i prefer 2 * 20 as it gives me another 2 medium line units.
What Ubertechie says is sound, very sound advice. At 1K I usually ditch the wizard for more troops and I am not sure the standard in your blunderbuss is necesary, but the whole of the advice is very sound.
Right now, your blunderbusses are pretty small in size, the bull centaur hero is an extravagance that you really can live without. You get him away from a unit and he will get into trouble pretty fast (most of the time). You might go one big block of dwarves, may be 24 with a banner (add your hero) and then take the second one our and add some large blocks of armored hobgoblins and naked hobgoblins.
And drop the rocket for two bolt throwers and a 10 man hobgoblin unit to clamber-off and claim a corner. I usually don’t expect much of them in combat, but yesterday I had some animosity out of the building and get a charge on harpies. Same points, much more effective at actually winning a game.
