[Archive] 2,500 Shooty Army

Mosk:

This is my very very very first army list that I have composed for the CD. I wanted to make a very effective shooty army to go up against my friends and brother. All of my friends have close hand combat armys, with VERY little if any missile weapons. The armies that I will be facing include,

Hordes of Chaos (Khorne with i think like 40 calvary (mix of marauders and knights of chaos), not including his hounds but he never takes advantage of his mobility, he just lines his knights up infront and charges them straight in.)

Night Goblin Army (has 2 spear chukkas and 1 rock lobba)

Vampire Counts ( real skele heavy, one group of 20 ghouls and a couple vampires)

Skaven (with very little missile fire right now atleast)

Beasts of Chaos (a couple chariots and lots of gors)

All of these are 2500 armies (and all but the vampire counts guy can go up to 5000 points.)

So here is my army list, very low on magic (because I really dont understand magic, and my heros really need work)

One question!!! should I have my BB in groups of 15 3x5 or groups of 10 10x1?

Heros:

CD Lord (120 pts) w/ great weapon (+6) heavy Armour (+6) 132

2 BT… 60

Now this is just my first thought for a shooty army. I am wondering if it would be better to fight my blunder busses as groups of 10x1 or 5x3 units? Have 6 groups of 5x3 blunderbusses or 9 groups of 10x1?

Bloodfire:

Have your blunderbusses set up in groups of 5x3, that way you can gain that wonderfull strength 5 to your shoots

Looking at your army list, are these gonna be friendly games? As 2 earth shakers and 8 bolt throwers aren’t very friendly in my opinion.

My only advice which i can give at this moment is try and find some more points for some more sorcerers, as magic is a good complement for shooty armies.

wallacer:

You’re paying too many points for your 28 strong Hobgoblin unit.

8 BTs isn’t the end of the world, since they’re only being fired by Hobgoblins, but 8 BTs in conjunction with the 2 Earthshakers means that your friends probably won’t be friends for long.

You may want to discuss it with them and see if they’re OK with playing against that list.

Mosk:

ok lol so dropping the BT and adding say some sneeky grits or… um i dont know just adding those would be betta? or drop one earth shaker and add bull centaurs

Mosk:

What about adding a death rocket, just for fun, that would take out two BT

wallacer:

A death rocket and Bull Centaurs would probably be more fun for you to play with (also against). The 2 Earth Shakers are the main problem as they can slow down the enemy so much that their close combat troops may never even have a chance to get to combat (making it a pretty miserable game for them).

It really depends on your oponents, I guess. If they make rock hard builds that push their lists to the limit then they may be cool with you doing the same.

One interesting thing to try is playing an opponent, then afterwards play a second game using each others armies. I tried that once with my Skaven and it was certainly educational to see what my army was like to play against

Mosk:

That is a good idea That will def help both of you figure out how to play a fun evenly matched game
