[Archive] 2000 LoA list (New to CD and looking for help)

turbotomte:

Hi there!

Just got my Tamurkhan Book and a bunch of models from Forgeworld, great stuff! I’m planning to play a friendly mini tourney with some friends in the near future, but I havn’t played a game with CD’s (pretty new on the whole warhammer scene, always just paited and converted before), and I’d appreciate if you veterans could help me out a bit with my list :cheers

What I will be facing is: Lizardmen, Dark Elves & Skaven.

2000 pts.

I’ve got these models to use:

50x IG w/ HWS (+ command groups)

20x IG w/ Glaives

20x Hobgoblins w/ bows

6x K’daai Fireborn

3x BC

2x Daemonsmiths

2x Infernal Castellans

1x Sorcerer-Prophet

1x Taur’ruk

2x Magma Cannon

1x DS Rocket

1x Hell Cannon

1x K’daai Destroyer conversion

Soo what i’ve come up with:

Lords:

Sorcerer Prophet lvl4 hashut

Chalice, Talisman of Perservation

Heroes:

Daemonsmith lvl2 fire (babysit war machines)

Dispell Scroll

Daemonsmith Sorcerer lvl1 Death (babysit warmachines)

Infernal Castellan

BSB, Enchanted Shield, great weapon

Core:

28x Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard (bsb & sorc goes here…?)

musician, standard bearer

hand weapon + shield

razor standard

20x Hobgoblin cutthroats

bows

Special:

Magma Cannon

Magma Cannon

Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher

Rare:

K’daai destroyer

Total 2001 pts

So, what do you think? I’ve only ever played WoC before, so a shooty army is not something I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to it! :hashut

Bloodbeard:

Infernal Castellan: You can’t use a shield and a great weapon. So either go for the enchanted shield and some cheap magic handweapon - or some other item. Everybody takes Mask of the Furnace for +1 to AS and a 4++ ward save. Plus he’ll cause fear - great versus the skaven enemy.

I say drop the dispel scroll. You have the chalice. And when people want to cast the really nasty spell the go max on the power dice and try to get the irresistable force anyway.

You could consider changing the lvl 1 smith into a couple of khans on wolfs. They can stop a regiment for a turn, harass war machines, be a pain for your enemies frenzy monsters. Most importantly it can screen in front of your destroyer, making sure some annoying little unit doesn’t get to hold it up.

I havn’t done any math on your list. But “the terrifying mask of eee” is great on a khan - when fighting the skaven. Charging a low LD unit utside BSB/general range with terror is well worth the small amount of points.

And check the armylist part of the forum. Tons of list on 2000 points, with many a tactical thought and discussion.

Time of Madness:

Fairly solid list in my opinion.

Only real issues I have are with your characters.

You don’t really need 2 smiths. At 2000pts I’d stick to the Prophet, bsb and 1 level 1 smith.

You should have the enchanted shield on your prophet. And your bsb really needs the mask of furnace/shield combo. This gives you 2 important characters with a 2+ and a 4+ save.

Put a champ in the guard unit and drop the razor standard in favour of the lichebone pennant. I like to have at least a standard and musician in the hobgoblin archers.

Your special/rare choices are fairly standard in most powerful chaos dwarf lists.

thanks for the help! will look over my list.

What do you mean when you say “4++” ward save, whats that extra “+” ?

It's short hand for ward save. It's just a commonly used short hand to signify the difference between ward and armour saves. Eg "3+/5++" would mean "a 3+ armour save and a 5+ ward save".

Dînadan
ah cheers for explaining!

turbotomte:

Ok that didn’t go well.

Played against Lizardmen, and he had put together his list to beat me, which he also did. And I rolled the worst dices I’ve ever rolled… (turn 2 my Destroyer got 3 wounds from skinks(!) and took 3 wounds from himself and died before even getting into combat…)

Anyway, I’m looking for a solid 1000 pts list vs skaven. He always runs a Hellpit Abo, and a destroyer would’ve been great to counter its regen, but can’t fit that in 1000 pts.

This is what I’ve got:

Infernal Castellan

Fireglaive

Daemonsmith Sorc lvl1 Fire (sits with magma cannons)

charmed shield

19x Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard (4x5, might start out as 2x10 and reform?? castellan here)

Fireglaives

Musician

Standard

Deathmask

20x Hobgoblin Cutthroats (2x10)

Bows

Magma Cannon

Magma Cannon

990pts, room for another 10 on something.

What do you think? I might need more bodies.

Time of Madness:

The 1000pt list is a shooting based list, which are generally pretty decent against skaven.

You should really have 2 deathshrieker rockets in the list. Maybe go 2 rockets and 1 cannon.

The rockets with S8 and D6 wounds are great at taking out aboms. You can also use the rockets with the template to take out large units of skaven.

I would take something like this

- Castellan with enchanted shield

- Level 1 smith

- 15 Infernal Guard with command, fireglaives and standard of disipline

- 20 hobgoblins with bows and command

- 2 rockets

- 1 magma cannon

Comes in around 1000pts (just under I believe).

turbotomte:

Thanks! Yes, I guess in theory they are. But if I roll like yesterday (1hit the two times i got it to hit something) it feels that the magma preforms better.

I’ll think about it.

Bloodbeard:

Sorry to hear about the game - that sure was a bummer. If Ms. Fortuna is looking the other way games end up like that.

In Denmark (and perhaps every other place) we have a saying: "Bad luck in games - luck in love."

I’ve been cursing my wife to some bad places during many a blood bowl game.

turbotomte:

Haha, yes I guess.

I played a 1500 game yesterday against Dark Elves which I won. The Destroyer again suffered bad luck with dices, but managed to get to the enemy unit (with his only sorcerer) with 1 wound left, and wiped out the whole thing before it died.

But one problem I have (again, keep in mind I’m a new player to warhammer altogether), is skirmishers. When I play Lizardmen he always fields Charmeleon Skinks, and when I played Dark Elves yesterday, he had those Darkelves skirmishers. What would be the best way to deal with these? I feel that when we play 1500-2000 pts I kind of have too little points to set up something to defend my warmachines flanks from them. I’ve tried to cast the fire signature spell with the smith to deal with them, but both times this have failed.

ideas?
