[Archive] 2000 points, Tamurkhan, Competitive

thrawn:

i have decided to try something a little different. after posting my first 2000 Tamurkhan list and getting feedback i have deicded to not necessarily re-vamp it, but make some major shifts. my idealogy is this, nowadays everyone takes a lvl 4. it’s the new black, it seems that everyone thinks magic will win you the game. magic will definitely help, but i don’t think it will win you the game. so, i want a good mix, but most important i want minimum 3 units that can hit hard and break his units. as chaos dwarfs are really expensive, it’s hard to put 3 hard hitting units in, but not impossible, while still maintaining a good mix.

here is my 2000 points list with the objectives above listed:

Dawn Stone

Iron Curse Cross

right now i’m 7 points over and not sure how to shave it off so if you got some ideas please suggest!

So the plan is not overly complex. I have 3 powerful warmachines, that should cause some damage before we get into combat. i have a solid line that should be able to handle most competitors. The Destroyer goes after his strongest horde, my centaurs intercept his monsters, monstrous cavalry/infantry, whilst my horde of infernal guard go for his cavalry. my hobgloblins odviously go warmachine hunting/re-directing. i would use a khan, but have no more hero points to allocate. the hobgoblins are not bad so long as they’re kept close to the dwarfs. one daemomsmith goes with infernal guard and takes Lore of Hashut, sole purpose is to cast signature spell and make all my guys hate the opponent. my other daemonsmith babysits the warmachines and hobgoblin archers (so they don’t suffer from animosity). don’t want to take k’daai burners as they seem to burn themselves more often than the opponent, plus the centaurs have T5 and 3W! pretty tough i’m thinking.

So? Ideas?

Only the Level 4 can take Lore of Hashut, alas. I would recommend one Daemonsmith on Metal and one Daemonsmith on Fire. Try and make them both lv2 as well, both lores have very useful spells.

Drop the spears on the BCs, as they use them like infantry (stupid rules :|). Instead, apply Great Weapons to enemy faces. Repeat if necessary.

Bah. Real men take Fireborn ;)

Looks good overall, I wouldn't bother with the wolf riders - I would take a lone wolf Khan though.

thrawn:

@baggronor, thanks for the feedback.

can’t take khan, maxed out on hero points.

did not realise can’t take lore hashut with deamon smith . . . sucks!

also, centaurs use spears as infantry?!?!?!?! wow, is that ever dumb! will just give them shields and hope they can tough it out. wow!

Grimbold Blackhammer:

I’m confused how your Level 2 Deamonsmith is going to “babysit” the Hobgoblins?

stops there animosity

Gammal:

What ive found, with the Castellan.

He rarely needs that much defense, I find it much more appealing making him a bit offensive.

1 Infernal Castellan @ 175.0 Pts

Blackshard Armour; Battle Standard

Black Hammer of Hashut

Enchanted Shield

Potion of Speed

He has a 2+ save, doesnt have a ward save, but with str6… yeaaah

thrawn:

thanks for the suggestion gammal, i’m just worried cause he’s my only fighty character, plus he’s my bsb so i’d rather spend the points and keep him safe.

does anyone here use a taurus? is it worth putting your sorcerer on one? i have another list in mind where i basically swap one of the daemonsmiths and the centaurs for a sorcerer lord on a taurus.

spriten:

I’m not a fan of the Dawn stone. If your caster survives for 6 turns, it buys you an extra power dice.

I’d swap it for a Ruby ring, which works great coupled with a fire user or two.

I agree with Baggronor on everything excepet the Fireborn. T5 and W3 coupled with the ability no to kill itself is quite nice.

If you need to shave some points, you can drop two IG, the champ on the Hobgoblins or even a Bull Centaur without losing too much damage output.

Hope this may help some
