[Archive] 2000 pts Tournament List

Marduk:

Please comment on this list which I intend to take to a tournament. I expect to see all types of armies with slight predominance of ogres and skaven.

I am considering ideas from Nilbog’s thread on how to win with the Legion of Azgorth, with adjustments for army size and taking into account that I don’t have adequate minis to proxy neither hobgoblins nor bull centaurs.

Here’s the list:

Lord

Sorcerer-Prophet, Lvl 4, Lore of Hashut, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Preservation, Crown of Command

Hero

Dark Castellan, BSB, Shield, Mask of the Furnace, Luckstone, Ironcurse Icon

Core Units

20 Infernal Guard, Full Command, Lichebonne Pennant

17 Infernal Guard, Full Command

Special Units

Magma Cannon, Hellbound

Magma Cannon

Magma Cannon

Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher

Rare Units

K’Daii Destroyer

The Hellbound on one Magma Cannon is to obtain magical attacks against ethereal units.

Thanks for your comments.

metro_gnome:

I’d drop the rocket for a smith with charmed shield…

and drop the penant to get another dwarf…

2 units of 19 plus characters for 20 man stubborn blocks…

I’d also probably drop hellbound the stone and the icon for Lvl 2…

and use the smith to help deal with ehtereals…

lone hellbound cannon kinda has a “kick me” sign written on it…

Far2Casual:

Agree with the above but I would drop a Magma for a smith instead, the Shrieker will help you in many circumstances. And I’d rather have two magmas with rerolls and some magic, than three without.

nilbog:

You need to make the infernal guard blocks bigger, at least 19 in each, preferably 24.

I’d drop a magma cannon and get a daemonsmith instead, then the three warmachines that you have left are more accurate. Take fire and you’ve got magic to deal with ethereals.

Good to see somebody reading my stuff!

Marduk:

Thanks for the advice!

I dropped a magma cannon. One deathshrieker rocket launcher is good because I expect at least one battle with Skaven or High Elves. I increased the sizes of the infernal guard units and removed the hellbound.

This is the new list:

Lord

Sorcerer-Prophet, Lvl 4, Enchanted Shield, Talisman of Preservation, Crown of Command

Heroes

Dark Castellan, BSB, Shield, Mask of the Furnace

Daemonsmith Sorcerer, Lvl 2, Charmed Shield (stays close warmachines)

Core Units

23 Infernal Guard, Full Command

19 Infernal Guard, Full Command

Special Units

Magma Cannon

Magma Cannon

Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher

Rare Units

K’Daii Destroyer

Does this look better now?

With two wizards, what lores do you recommend? Hashut and Fire?

MLP:

New list does look better, and you can’t really go wrong with Hashut and fire. Against all opponents it’s probably the most versatile, although as your prophet will be in unit and close to the enemy Death could be worth considering.

Marduk:

That’s what I am thinking. The general won’t stay back. He will move forward so Death looks interesting. But Hashut and Fire have sinergies.

I have another question. I have just realized that I only have one miniature that looks suitable for the magma cannon but I have more than one for deathshriekers. (The CD army is young and I am using mostly proxies). If I drop a magma cannon and change it for a deathshrieker, what should I do with the points available? I am considering Blood of Hashut and Dispel Scroll.

Thanks.

MLP:

You can’t go wrong with a dispel scroll it will always come in handy. I personally love the Blood of Hashut and Almost always take it, vary rarely will it dissapoint for 20 points (which aren’t magic item points).

With the warmachines it’s six and two threes. You have one of each already so an extra of either type will be good against some armies the other isn’t. When you don’t know who you’re facing the Deathshrieker’s always good because of the two shot types and will be excelent against Skaven with the S3 template and panic, but Magma cannons on the other hand are pretty damn awesome and especially against Ogres.

Marduk:

Thanks for the advice.

In the end I dropped the Crown of Command and an Infernal Guard and replaced them with a Dispel Scroll and Blood of Hashut. The Dispel Scroll was very useful but I did not get a chance to use the Blood of Hashut. The Crown of Command was not missed.

My battles were as follows:

1. Victory against Skaven. I won by victory points in three rounds, by refusing combat on one side and destroying a Doomwheel (by K’daai Destroyer), an Abomination (by magma cannon) and a unit of Rat Ogres (by General’s Infernal Guard). I lost a magma cannon which was destroyed by a cannon.

2. Defeat against High Elves. They had a very strong unit of Dragon Princes which were immune to almost everything I had against them. They killed my K’daai and got ready to charge my General’s unit. I cast the Purple Sun of Xereus and I rolled a Misfire on the Artillery Dice which killed half of my unit, the General and the BSB.

3. Victory against Vampires. He had a very powerful list with lots of magic which caused a lot of damage very soon. He charged on the second round with huge units that caused a lot of casualties but I killed his General and BSB in close combat and reduced his army’s Fortitude to its Breaking Point (Blood and Glory scenario), thus ending the game with a victory for the LoA.

I like the list but the next time I’ll try to use a long-range lore of magic for my Sorcerer-Prophet. I believe my second level daemonsmith caused more damage than my 4th level Sorcerer-Prophet.
