[Archive] 2000pts Heavy-Hobgoblin

BilboBaggins:

You aren't panicking the unit from shooting or magic. Though someone said there's a Tzeentch spell that can instant kill an entire unit (I still don't believe they'd make a spell so broken...). Combat is where it's at, as explained above you need maaybe 10-15 kills and the unit regardless of it's ranks and outnumbering and BSB and Standard et al is rolling snake eyes or fleeing. Just hit it with multiple units at once straight in the front. In the same turn use your shooting to take out the rest of the army and you'd table the army in one go.

The infamous Tzeentch spell is in the Warriors of Chaos book.

It's Infernal Gateway. 2D6 hits, 2D6 strength but if a 11-12 is rolled for strength the unit is removed from play. It's spell 6 and casts on a 15+

Chaos also has other real killer spells for that unit.

WOC Slaanesh - Ecstatic Seisures and DOC Nurgle - Plague Wind (Entire Unit takes Toughness test, fail and die No Saves)

Units that could cause the wounds needed to make it break.

Knights all
Saraus
Empire Militia (if front wide enough)
Sneaky Gits (if front wide enough)
Empire Mortars (would need multiples but 5 inch templet will kill)

Could really do it.
Goblin Hewer (flank shot, assuming 60 models wide) 60 D3 should average 120 S4 AP hits.
Multiple Doomseekers (1 technically could do it) - 3 auto hits and 7 hit on 4+ each at S5, Yes please.
Savage Orc Boar Boyz - Frenzy and add the Banner of butchery you can have 25 attacks in unit of 5.
Knights of Chaos (Khorne) - Frenzy and 22 S4 attacks for unit of 5

we had spend 1550 pt

we can field 450 points of hobbos

i like to use bolt throwers…

we can spend missing points in them and so many hobbos in the way we want…

something like:

4 BT 120

2 x 25 hobbos with standard and musician armour and shield 240

10 archers 50

20 naked hobbos 40

we can down with bb’s and put more hobbos (we can find other 120 pts: it could be up to 60 hobbos more!!!) but, even if like hobbos, I prefear a bit of reliablity…

sorry for hobbospam supporter if I’d like to field no more than only 111 hobbos (but I could rise up to 171!!)

Levir:

Ok, I have now played the tournament with various results. I started up against OK. I think he´s a beginner, because he didn´t play well at all. I actually only lost two hobbos (they didn´t kill a single ogre) but my warriors made pretty good. Draw, because of his inexperience.

I had faced the Chaos players before, and he have played since 1st edition… The game was over in the fourth round. I was completely wiped out.

When I faced the High Elves, he took me by surprise, deploying a Star Dragon and nothing by archers and a noble. And, well, his archers didn´t do anything really, and the Star Dragon was locked in combat for the rest of the game. In turn six, the Dragon was overhelmed and ran of the table. It costed (I think) 700pts. So I actually won.

The match against the Wood Elves went terrible. She (first time I´ve faced a female Warhammerplayer) used some spell that could move forests around the table, not sure of what it was. Well, the hobbos fled and that was it.

I finished seventh out of thirteen, but won the price for the oddest army and best sportsmanship.

Over and out.

Auretious Taak:

So what army did you actually end up taking in the end and more importanly I believe we all want to see pics of the mega unit of hobbo’s…

Bassman:

Second Auretious Taak, I want to see the huge hobgobbos unit! :idea

Could you elaborate a little bit? could you please tell us the list you bring to the tournie?

The High Elf player was not a great player: I’d never get my dragon stuck into combat with this massive unit. I’d just spend time deleting the rest of your army with the help of archers and noble (I hope a mobile noble, so could jump here and there along with the Dragon…).

If needed I’d give the hobgobbos a 10 elf unit to play with for the entire battle, elf archers with ASF are able to stay in combat for long with your uber unit.

I’m sure it was fun for you, so what’s the poit of more arguing… we wanna see them!!!

Auretious Taak:

As Bassman says, Pics or it Didn’t Happen!

The High Elf Player could have added up how much damage he could do with damage at range - not enough for even one panic test. Turn around engage you in the front with archers and flank with the rest and flank charge with units of 10 even in your rear haha yeah right. In any case I’d like to see the unit…
