[Archive] 2400 - new rules - target saturation

pedneault:

I was thinking about how would CD could benefit from the new lord rules and I don’t see us gaining much from it. I see 2 opportunities, max-out your prophet on a bale-taurus list or get all the goodness from the heroes section without cutting. I’m going with the taurus today.

The list :Lords (620pts)

    -Sorcerer-prophet (620)

Charmed Shield, Talisman of Preservation, Bale Taurus, Blood of Hashut, Level 4 Death,        Earthing rod

 Heroes (462pts)

   -Daemonsmith Sorcerer (145)

Chalice of Blood and Darkness, Level 1 Fire

   -Hobgoblin Khan (64)

Giant Wolf, Light Armour, Shrieking Blade

   -Hobgoblin Khan (58)

             Giant Wolf, Light Armour, Spear

    -Infernal Castellan (195)

Battle Standard Bearer, Mask of the Furnace

Core (603pts)

       -Hobgoblin Cutthroats (104pts)

  Bow/Musician

      -Hobgoblin Cutthroats (104pts)

Bow/Musician

       -29x Infernal Guard FC (395pts)

2400

Here are the ideas behind it :

Taurus : when you invest in a flying monster, you want 2 things, flying PSun IF but you’ll also want to have him in combat someday. So earthing rod/top/charmed shield auto-include for me. That’s 600 pts and usually at 25%, blood of hashut is added to get a lil more punch in combat and might let you kill some stuff you wouldnt in a 25% max lord.

Target saturation : you’re bringing your general on a please shoot me mount. Your opponent will have to make some choices. 3 warmachines/1k’daai/1taurus. What are you going to let through ?

K’daai : depending on the situation there will always be 1 or 2 khan to block frenzy baiting/clear chaff out of the way since there is no centaurs for the delivery this time.

Deployment : Stubborn IF protecting the machines with hobos on each side, can reform in ranks of 3 if hero in potential bad matchup. K’daai/khans on their own on a flank. Prophet going for flank positions on low init armies and sniping threats like canon/lvl 4.

You can probably switch cores with 1 20 hobos and 27 blunder if you want to move the warmachines up on deployment.

Playing this list on the weekend and the other I posted a couple of weeks ago. I don’t know my opponents yet, but it will be between undead legion, woodies, highies.

Comments ?:hat off

Admiral:

That’s a pretty neat idea and list. Try it out!

Doombeard:

Nice list ! Interesting to read your ideas about PSun. I liked the old combo of Sorceror on Lammasu and CCombat Lord on Bale Taurus. I’m excited to explore that opportunity maybe at the expense of the K’daai. Put a Lev 3 CCombat equipped SP on a Taurus and a Lev 4 Sorceror on a Lammasu. Probably won’t work so great but good to know we can do it if we want to.

I think you would be paying too much on magic lvls you don't need in this scenario. K'daai already at M9 and already at 4+ ward. Would be cool on a table though.

As for the lvl 4 on lammasu vs. Bale taurus. I think the lammasu wins the trade-off. Smaller print agains cannonballs/templates. You get 2+ ward on magic missile also and a free channel dice. Vs. Flame template/higher T/W, F10 will still hit on 2's. I don't have a lammmasu model though.

The carpet would be even better if it wasn't so pricy. There's no place for it for a death magic deliverer when you are forcing IF.

Geist:

I am just going to say what I have said before about a lord on a bale or a great bale.

Skinks will make your life hell.

You will think your billy bad ass and charge into something that will hand your ass to you.

You will always be tempted to make a charge that more than likely is a bad idea.

You have no armour save for the bull and while his rule is cool he will die once he gets into any real fight.

This is a for fun kinda list idea not a tourney idea.

Good luck.

I don't see where they could be scary when you know what they do. Go with the matchup, younhave so many things to take care of them. In competitive lost you will usually see 4x10 in pairs of 2 with 2 blocks of saurus. They are slow, so no stress like you would be facing ogres or cavalry lists. 1 warmachine shot and they are gone. The taurus will never be in range of the 4 units at the same time. You fly, have a breath weapon, terror. And they are not usually in thr general's bubble. Yes, you have bigger targets for machines, but againstnthis specific matchup, you will usually have 1 more round if shooting.

They don't have cannons, shooting is splt between rider and mount, scared of turn 1, deploy it behind cover, and he will hit on 7+ and lose poison.

Even if you are not patient and just charge it and they manage to not flee on the reaction :
On a basis on 10 shots : 6.6 shots goes to taurus, 1 poison wounds goes through average. Ill take it anyday at 5 W, even at double shots I would go.
