IF you are speaking of 1000 slaves, then I got your back, if you are speaking of 1000 posts, I'm gonna have to say meh.. whatever. I think post count is just another way for people to glorify themselves.. It's a worthless number and quite frankly it's like drinking lukewarm water.. It should only be attempted when one hasn't had anything to drink in a long time.

Rightly said
but you do get a cool title I mean i'm a bull centaur :)
I like the ranks. but hell, you could get that at a certain post count, without said post count being visible or know for that matter. And if someone asks, you just tell them, it’s a rank and is available for dedicated forum users…
I just wanted to say that I too have recently posted about my 100th post. Of course, I might be the one some of you were upset with as far as “frivolous posts” go. My 100th post “comment” was more about how great this site is, that I keep coming back and want to be involved with CDO. I meant what I said in my post. I really think this is a wonderful community of gamers and friends. I do not believe post count is the only qualifier nor even a barrage of success, as far as your “expertise” or even how much someone should listen to you…I tend to gravitate to the awards section for that. (Ie If I want to make big hats, I’ll gravitate to Ishkur for his 6 medals, including the Golden Hat Gold, Best Hobbyist, Army Showcase, etc! - ok, that and I love his figs and paint jobs).
However, I was trying to congratulate this site (and ALL of its members - not me) , on being such a great place that I have loved being here. So I am sorry if my post offended, and it was not about CD’s in particular. I am working on my army, and while I may not paint as well as some, nor convert as well as some, as my pics will no doubt show…I am thrilled to be playing around with the Dawi Zharr.
I was thrilled when I reached 100 posts. And I was thrilled when I reached a new title. and I am always happy when I receive slaves. To each their own. (or simple things for simple… shifty eyes)
Some people are happy when their thread gets X views/hits, some want replies, others want post count. If you don’t like these posts, ignore them as Obsidian does by not coming to Off topic (as does Vex, he’s told me so).
To me, personally, reaching 100 posts was monumental. CDs and WH are things I knew NOTHING about until I became a member of this site. it was only through reading and meeting others and being able to immerse myself by posting and asking questions and reading feedback that I really began to understand this world. So sure, some of my posts may have seemed of poor quality, but my intent was to learn and grow in the community.
So Auretious, the question to ask yourself is this, is what you post constructive? Is it kind? Does it perhaps bring a smile to someone’s face? Does it inform? Or do you do it for no other reason than to increase the number of posts made? I believe you are the former and not the latter. As am I and most, if not all, people on this site.
So congrats on your 100 posts. It’s always nice to see someone involved in the site.
Everyone agrees that spam is bad. Everyone agrees contributing is good. Post counts can represent both. But on this forum, I have never seen an issue with spamming. Thusly, post counts men contributing.
Not all post counts are created equal. Many forums allow people to increase their count with spam. So when talking about post counts you should state whether you are talking about “most forums’ post count” or “CDO’s post count.”
Off-Topic is for fun stuff to take place where you don’t have to worry about contributing. Simple as that.
As a follow-up I was blown away when I joined the forum here a year ago. I was amazed at the spirit of community that I found here and I sill am amazed by it, this is not something you find everywhere on the web.
Many places are overly snarky dens of rude comments for no other reason then to do it, not here. I consider in an honor to have been made a staff member and above all to be a member of the community. In my case that comes along with a high post count, but if that means anything it means that I enjoy the community and in that is the best thing above all others.
Ahh but Willmark I suspect part of your high post count came from the fact that the post counter in off topic was turned on for some of that time as was stated somewhere hereabouts the post counter was only more recently in the grand scheme of things turned off for off topic, or am I so out of it this is the wrongf orum where this has happened. Sohjourn i would like to think i contribute and make people smile occasionally, if I want spam I can mindlessly spam anywhere, but the CDO community is different because like a few such places no matter the context of the interest, CDO is for the more dedicated people who WANT to be here. We’re the last voice for an army that has all but died, and none of use want to see it go down the path of the squat for 40k…I mean who doesn’t want war trikes with bloody huge cannons on their back gunned by undersized dwarfs in space hey?
Viskar, 100 posts is good, as explained above, our little duel to 1,000 posts shall be celebrated regardless but we should hold off on pure spam as I am sure there will be something else from that…
That all said, how do we get slaves exatly? Contributing to the website yes, but is it based off some innate ability of the forums or do admin personally give them out 1 by 1?
Kera, you claim that your slaves can’t be eaten or drunk, and they take yup room you would rather have withf ood and booze, so how about we barter away for some food and booze so I can take your uncared and unloved slaves to my pens where they shall enjoy life more fully, experienceinga full range of experiences, tee hee. Heck, I’ll even throw in some blood wine for you! What say you?
This thread, whilsts tarting out as spam has developed into a meaningful discussion, perhaps it would be nice to have it re-posted to a part of the forum that all members frequent so they can expres their views?
Willmark’s post count was because he seemed to live on CDO over the last year! I think he must have hard wired his brain or something. :) You are correct there was a period when the off topic section did count towards posts, but it’s because Willmark is such a keen member of CDO that his post count is so high.
The fact that he won the ‘best overall member’ medal and went on to be admin says it all really.
Well, I am over 4 digits and slaves are better than post count: slaves represent quality of posts. Mor eimportant than quantity as has been said. Also, if posts are deemed to be purely to increase the number, they will either be moved or deleted. Congratulations on reaching one hundred. Get to 1,000, but make them worthwhile!
EDIT: GSF, also, since the off-topic section is no longer coutning towards posts, Willmark’s postcount will have dropped accordingly, which says it all. As you may have noticed, unlike the rest of the staff I have less than 1k slaves: the ones I have I have earnt. The reason I didn’t receive a bonus 1k slaves to hand out here and there is because the apostrophe in my name ruins coding, so you can rest assured, my many posts have some quality within them

Ahh, see, I'm still relatively new here abouts and assumed Willmark has been admin always. :) As to awards and stuff, not found them yet. I would like to think I am contributing fairly solidly to the forum barring the 50 I gor from the Blood Bowl Voting for CD's, that means I am packing 80 odd slaves inside of 140 odd posts or so, so that is an okay indicator I would think. Either way, I like havinga post count there, it's as I said above a way I judge how much I have been around and contributed but 1,000 slaves, yes well then, that's the interesting path to go.
At hashut's Blessing, we already know about your coding screwing stuff up, I think you're really a sorcerer in disguise, muddling up the magic et al.
At Kera, yes, a K in the back you say? Oh we may have to just flay those K's away... ;) As discussed elsewhere in General Discussion I'll use this quest to fuel my own army along with a story to go with them. I do have a Chaos dwarf Sorcerer conversion I am working on but no time for 3 weeks yet till after exams are completed.

I usually do not like to talk about myself, but in the context of discussion it works. OT did count for a period of time by that is not what caused me to have such a high count. I joined the site only in late August of 2007. As Grim and HB rightly pointed out I was not a staff member to start, in fact I still am the newest staff member.
To this day I have three moments that I am most proud of: 1) Being the first member to reach 100 Slaves; 2) Being named Best Member for 2007 after only having been on the site for 4 months and 3) losing to Kera for Best Attitude. There have been other but these stick out in my mind.
But it is the community that keeps me coming back and the determination that if we do just a bit more we will get out day. I figure if I lead by example others will step up and it has happened.
In short congrats and enjoy the ride to 1,000. Don't race, there is no point: "The journey is the reward", besides I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy out in front! ;)
