Total 3000 points

After play testing with several of my club mates I was pretty satisfied with my most of my results.

Game one was against a deathstar High Elf list that basically tabled me.

Game two was a bit opposite. My opponent was playing a WOC Troll list with double Demon Princes at the end of the game, he had a small unit of marauders and a unit of dogs left on the table.

Game three  I played against Skaven with all the bells and whistles (pun intended here). this was a very fun game. Killed both of his Abombs by turn 3 and even managed to hold off a unit of Gutter Runners with a lone demonsmith ( he tried to use them for warmachine hunters) for 8 rounds of combat. At the end of the game. he had two half units of Plague Monks and a unit of slaves. All and all, I was pretty happy with this game.

Game four, I played an Empire player who had a decent Light Council build. Worrying about the cannons and Banishment with the Destroyers I  set them up to try and get into combat ASAP. luckily when we rolled I also got first turn which help a lot. I moved my skirmishers the full 12 before turn 1 which moved me closer to the warmachines on turn one, I made a long charge in to a unit of archers with one destroyer, failed a charge with the other one, caught one of his cannons with a Khan which could overrun into another Locked up the Stank with the unit of Wolf Riders. and moved up the remaining infantry. Magic seen Ashstorm on his LV 4 on 4 dice which got through and thanks to the Chalice, I managed to sneak in a Searing Doom on a unit of Inner Circle Knights which killed 4 of them. During the shooting phase, I dropped a template on top of 2 of the lv 1 wizards and killed 12 Haliberdiers in a hoard unit of 50 with the magma cannons (luckily I got a reroll from one of the deamonsmiths). combat seen the khan take out a cannon, overrun in to another cannon, Destoryer  munched through the archer unit and overran into the IC knights, and the wolfriders actually dealling a wound to the stank. I couldnt have asked for a better turn 1.  After that it was all downhill for him. He called the game on turn 4.

All in all I was very pleased with the games, but there were a few things that really did under-perform. the first one was the 3 man unit of hobbos. they really didnt do much of anything. in all of the test games. dont know what I could do to make that unit better or it I need to just cut them out. Double destroyers at 3000 points is rough for the opponents but i am uncertain if that might be overkill, even in an un-comp’d GT. also I was curious to see if any of my Characters or units seem sub-optimal. Really hoping for your feedback.

Thanks.

ThorAxe:

Double destroyers is overkill vs certain lists, fails horribly against certain others. Ethereal models, ones with a 2+ ward to flaming, and chaff/redirecter armies either ruin K’daii or mitigate their effectiveness. Not really overkill given that there are definite counters to the model.

Bloodbeard:

Nice list. Would always put a ward save on my lvl 4 though.

Would love to see a picture of your 3000 point host.

Yes, give him tal of pres 4+ ward. He is to expensive not to have any

I agree about the double Destroyer to a point. 2+ flaming ward is enough to mitigate them as well as so many other things in this Army. but they are pretty limited to items thus can cause problems. As for Etheral units. yes the can be a headache. I have played against VC and know the problems that can come from these things as well as redirectors its something that can be played around and dealt with if the situation presents itself. ive been trying to figure out my best approches against these things as well.

Well I heard people debate about it. The pros and cons. In friendly games there was never diskussion we all bought the best stuff and ward saves we could get for our heroes. But at tournaments I met people which bought none. With their explanation "If he miscasts he probably dies. If he can't kill his opponent he probably dies. The low guarantee of a ward save is too expensive. So spare that points and buy more troops."

I think it's an interesting statement and I often think about it but must admit that I feel a bit naked without a good ward save. And I have often read the slogan -Never put all eggs in one basket!- in several White Dwarfs.

In conclusion I'm not a good player lost more games than won. And played not that often so I can't give a good résumé advice.

Just something to start one thinking.

I have also debated on the 4+ ward for the Prophet. I find that with a solid build on foot that its not needed as long as he is within a unit. now as a lone Character or mounted then yes it would be more of a go to since he wont have the unit to fall back on if need be. Death snipes for him really do not scar me with this Character as he is pretty survivable. only spell that really scars me as it does with just about any other CD player is the purple sun.

As for pictures of my army, Im still in the process of finishing up a few units while compiling an Army blog for the near future

Lepcon85:

So I played in the tourney a few weeks back and actually did fairly well. out of 5 rounds I won 3 and played the other 2 for a draw overall I finished within the top 15 so I was very pleased with my standings being my first GT. I didnt get to do full battle reports but the run down was as follows:

Game 1, Dwarf Gunline Draw (13-12 in my favor due to objectives)

Game 2, WOC Flying Circus Win (14-10)

Game 3, VC non-Deathstar/no Gheist Draw (13-13 which was brought back from the brink of a loss on my t6)

Game 4, Lizardmen Win (16-7 bc of the double destroyers. one of them only having one wound chewed through a full unit of 40 Saurus Warriors and a starting unit of 30 Temple guard with a Slann to about 5 before it finally died. the other still stood with a full 6w at the end.

Game 5 VC double Mortis Engine etheral list Tabled (23-2. double destroyer on a first turn charge catching his general and 40 man skelly unit for a t2 crumble while the warmachines and magic wiped up the remaining field by turn 4).

during the tourney, ech person had to comp their opponent and rate them on a scale for sportsmanship. each of my opponents were consistent with my comp score with a 12 across the board. the guy who won was an avid CD player and good friend. He won the tourney with a very soft and fluffy Tomb Kings list that averaged a comp scoreof 18( like I said a very soft list)

So now with my first GT out of the way, its time to start play testing for the next one in early November which will be 2500 Swedish Comp.

Cheers.
